Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, many say, and if you are a beer geek there is no better way to start the day than with a powerful, complex morning stout.

This is the beer that started it all for Mikkeller. Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee and seven different kind of malt (Pils, Oat, Smoked, Caramunich, Brown, Pale Chocolate, Chocolate), roasted barley, oat flakes, hops (Centennial, Cascade), American ale yeast and gourmet coffee. Aroma is a combination of malts, caramel, chocolate and coffee. The body is medium with light coffee and chocolate flavors with a creamy texture, average carbonation and a bitter edge on the finish. A beer that goes extremely well with breakfast.

Bottle. Color: Black, light brown head. Taste: Dark roasted malt, coffee and mocha notes. Hints of cocoa. Medium bitter, moderate sweet. Long lasting bitter earthy finish. Over medium body, bit creamy, under average carbonation. Very likeable. I like the mocha notes, but overall I think I'm missing some complexity but I can't tell exactly what it is. Curious to try one of the BA versions.

Bottle, 0.33l. Black pour, one finger beige head. Medium retention, some lacing. Nose slightly roasty, oats, some caramel, forest fruit notes. Medium body, medium carbonation. Thick texture, smooth mouthfeel. Roasty bittersweet taste. Nice and rich aroma - caramel, cocoa, oat flakes. Syrupy. Forest fruits initially in the aftertaste, later on cappuccino notes kick in... Nice. Slightly sticky. Sweetish mouthfeel followed by medium bitter finish, slightly dry. Overall, pretty good stout. Good complexity, nicely executed. Tasty brew.

I got this bottle in a trade with leftmindedrighty. Thanks Aaron!

It's breakfast time ! lol

It purs from 22.3 oz bottle an extremely dark brown with a nice 2 finger head of tannish foam that hardly shrinks during the session and leaves a lot of nice lacing.

The smell is of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel malt and at times, dark fruit and they started to hit my nose the second the cap was popped.

The taste is very nice. Notes of coffee and roasted malt along with nice dark chocolate and man, it has a great mouthfeel to it. The finish is a dark chocolate bitterness that lingers on well after the swallow and the alcohol s very well hidden. As I take more sips, I begin to notice that the roasted malt takes on more of a burnt malt flavour and that works out just fine for me...err..the strange thing is, each sip I take seems to be slightly different from the previous sip; it's almost like the flavours are on rotation. That said, this is one tasty and drinkable son of a gun and I'm very pleased that I got a chance to try it!
