Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, many say, and if you are a beer geek there is no better way to start the day than with a powerful, complex morning stout.
This is the beer that started it all for Mikkeller. Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee and seven different kind of malt (Pils, Oat, Smoked, Caramunich, Brown, Pale Chocolate, Chocolate), roasted barley, oat flakes, hops (Centennial, Cascade), American ale yeast and gourmet coffee. Aroma is a combination of malts, caramel, chocolate and coffee. The body is medium with light coffee and chocolate flavors with a creamy texture, average carbonation and a bitter edge on the finish. A beer that goes extremely well with breakfast.

33 cl bottle at Mikkeller Bar Madrid. A clean and glossy jet black pour with a long-lasting, mostly lacing, foamy tan to brown head. Aroma is red chili, black chocolate, espresso, coffee bean, vanilla... Along come iron filings, Maggi sauce, bacon... Olfactory feast. It begins soft, creamy and sweet, to develop a powerful, very bitter and long-lasting sip, with reminiscences of bitter herbs and roasted flavors.

Strong and coffee-like. But not as bold as I expected.the depth isn’t totally there to make it fantastic. Mikkeller berlin (oct 2018). Drank again in their bier advent calendar 2019 and stand by my rating.

Bottle sample @ De Prins, Rhenoy tasting with Sussanne and Gijs. Dark brown to black with a tan head. Black coffee aroma with lots of roasted malts and some hazelnuts. Taste is coffeebitter. Smooth mouthfeel with a chocolate finish. Very nice breakfast stout.

Do not consider myself a geek but I do like Mikkeller and beer also. The single 330 ml bottle was spotted at a nice beer and wine retailer in Santa Fe, NM many months ago. An unseasonable chilly day moved me to bring out the bottle for a sampling. The pour is made into my ABGB tulip glass, a rich dark brown body shows up accompanied by a here-and-gone light tan ring of foam. I tilt the glass for a smell. Cocoa and vanilla. But all that is preliminary to the taste, how about that, quite unusual. Strong with coffee, the chocolate is minimal if not gone, cereal, toast, burned pecans, quite malty. It improves with warming. I do not believe I would buy again for myself but certainly would to share with someone uninitiated just to see get their reaction.
