Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, many say, and if you are a beer geek there is no better way to start the day than with a powerful, complex morning stout.
This is the beer that started it all for Mikkeller. Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee and seven different kind of malt (Pils, Oat, Smoked, Caramunich, Brown, Pale Chocolate, Chocolate), roasted barley, oat flakes, hops (Centennial, Cascade), American ale yeast and gourmet coffee. Aroma is a combination of malts, caramel, chocolate and coffee. The body is medium with light coffee and chocolate flavors with a creamy texture, average carbonation and a bitter edge on the finish. A beer that goes extremely well with breakfast.

Bottle. Malty aroma and taste, coffee, roastyness, light chocolate notes, medium bitter. Medium to full body, malty bitter coffee finish. Good.

From the bottle. Virtually black with a creamy light brown head. Aroma is full of coffee. As usual with these additive coffee stouts it’s more the aroma of coffee grounds than an actual cup of roasted joe, but at least with this one it’s not putting me off. The undertone is full of fudge, which provides a comforting balance. Taste is moderate bitter, full of roasted flavors that play out at the finish. Medium to heavy body, mild carbonation, quite oily. By the end the head is long gone and it’s sitting in the glass like a puddle of oil mixed with yesterdays coffee, but strangely, I’m still loving it. 3.9

Thick creamy light brown head left a frothy cover on a very dark reddish brown still body. Sweet black coffee, berry & roasted aroma. Medium to full bodied, smooth & creamy over the tongue with a sharp dry finish. Milky coffee, under ripe berry, dark chocolate, oats, roast & slighty smoked tastes.
