Originally a Wild Dog release commemorating our 10th anniversary. Double Dog Double Pale Ale became here to stay in 2009. Could you control such a beast?
This is a big beer that calls for equally big foods. Flavor notes: Citrus hops with sweet malt and subtle alcohol burn (like a kiss on the cheek) Pairs with: Extra sharp aged Cheddar and stinky Blue cheese; smoked brisket; spicy foods with chili or cayenne pepper; earthy desserts like carrot cake.

bottle - Pours amber with a small, off-white head. It smells of caramel malt and hops accented by citrus and pine notes. The flavor is very bitter. Big hops bitterness with citrus and pine notes mingle with caramel malt and a sort of resiny, wood like characteristic that I associate more with barley wine. It’s full bodied and it’s a little harsh, but it’s very good.

Bottle. Aroma of metal, citrus, grass. Is that Simcoe? Rather clean. Bright amber-orange color. Hot, sweet, bitter flavor. Very hot—alcohol everywhere. Caramel and fiery hops, grass, pine. Too boozy and raw.

12 oz. bottle. Dark amber - copper color, creamy orange-toned head. Layered lacing. Sour sweet grapefruit nose. Aroma is a grapefruit hops. Somewhat of a syrup-thick mouthfeel. Very hoppy and fruity. Extremely bitter finish. Overly sweet, off-balance. Not my kind of brew. Hop heads would enjoy this.

355 ml. bottle from Høkeren, Copenhagen. Pours a bright, dark orange colour with a thin but long-lasting head. Lots of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. Aroma is very strong citrus hops, mixed with caramel and chocolate malts. The taste has plenty of citrusy hops with a strong alcohol flavor, and chocolate malts. The hops and malts are strong enough and well-balanced that the high alcohol at 11,5 % is not unpleasant. Also notice the label with the Ralph Steadman (style?) illustrations from Hunter S. Thomsons "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". And one of Mr. Thomsons qoutes: "Good people drink good beer"...

85 IBU and 11.3% Maybe they need each other. On the first occasion I tasted this it seemed fresh and the alcohol and bitterness were a perfect foil for one another. The same on the second, but on the third, I did get a little sweetness, which has probably brought my mark down a little. Great beer, I thought.

Bottled 355ml. -Shared with Marko. Clear amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, strong alcoholic nose with mild traces of hops. Sweet malty, agrumey hoppy and quite alcoholic with notes of caramel. Bitter and alcoholic finish. Too alcoholic to be something more than ok beer.

Bottle at Patrick’s Irish Pub in Ljubljana, shared with ogivlado. Poured a dark amber body. Malt, a bit stale too in the nose, with noticable alcohol, grain and maybe some hop. Sticky sweet taste dominated fortunately by fruity hopiness, which is nice, if candyish. Empty bitter aftertaste. Found it a bit lacking at first but it grew on me. Nothing I’d be returning to often though.

Pours a crystal clear deep amber with a thin off white head that sticks around for a bit. Aroma is hoppy! Pine, resin, citrus abound. Very faint caramel malt in the background. Taste is all hops, more pine and tart citrus that lingers on the throat and tongue. Body is medium, carbonation is crisp. Descent brew, but not my favorite double ipa. I would have liked a bit more malt, but definitely drinkable.
