Anchor Porter became the first modern American porter style beer when it was introduced in 1972. A blend of specially roasted pale, caramel, chocolate, and black malts, along with our top-fermenting yeast, creates complexity without bitterness. The brew is hopped at a high rate, and naturally carbonated. The result is dark in the glass, but surprisingly light on the palate.

16/03/2012 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Bevuta al 5th Stout&Porter Beer Festival. Nera, riflessi color caffé, schiuma biancastra sporca, poco persistente. Aroma di malti tostati, cioccolato e caffè, con leggeri sentori di luppolo. In bocca è molto ben equilibrata, di facile beva e appagante. Corpo medio, carbonazione soft. Una porter molto ben fatta e in splendida forma, sicuramente tra le migliori mai bevute.

Bottle. Pretty much black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, grass, coffee, vanilla, aniseed. Medium bodied and very silky. Taste is slightly sweet with mocha, modest charred flavour, licorice and spices. Quite firm bitterness perhaps overshadows the clean malt side of things. But very nice all the same. [3.7][2/13] As above. A good and refined drop that could use a couple of slightly rough edges. [ 5/16] Seemed overwhelmingly sweet until I remembered it needs to be colder than you’d think for a porter - 8Cish. Still like it.

Bottle @ Cafe Buitenlust, Oirschot. Almost pitch black, just some ruby redness shining through with a light brown head. Smells coffee, roasty, chocolate and sweet. Tastes coffee, roasty, chocolate. Quite a full body for its abv. Great carbo. Great beer!

Bottle. Roasted malt, prune, coffee, molasses, chocolate aroma. Clear black brown with a small tan head. Dark roasted malt, anise, coffee, dark fruit flavor. There is also a citric tartness and some spicy hops in the finish. Medium body.
