Imperial Porter.

Shall one compare thee to a fair beer,
Not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice.
Thou art more complex, brave and cunning.
Thou have changed more than a brew will ever.
Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.

12 ounce bottle. Dense black color with a small creamy tan head. Rich espresso malt nose has notes of prunes and smoke. Wow, what a huge wallop of rich decadent roasted bittersweet malt that greets you with first sip! So much going on here. Espresso and bittersweet chocolate are there along with currants, resiny hops and warming alcohol. This stout is complex and huge; nothing "Lil’" about this brew. Sticky mouthfeel and chewy finish. Not for the faint of heart. I loved it!

Keg at Craft Holborn, 27/08/14. Pitch black with a dirty tansville covering. Nose is big bitter roastings, dark chocolate, dark malt, spice, toffee fudge, booze fumee. Taste comprises much the same, big, bold, bitter and brashville. Full bodied, soft to fine carbonation, warming alcohol at the curtain call. Decent impy jobbie.

12fl oz. Bottle. Btld 02/19/14. Pours black in color, lasting brown head. Brown sugary aroma, coffee, molasses, some burnt wood. Flavor has chocolate, muscovado sugar, roasted malt and cold coffee notes. Finish is long with strong coffee and ashy notes. Alcohol nicely hidden, only some warmthness. Starts quite light actually, but as it gets warmer, gets very oily and heavy. Slow sipper. Quite OK, but doesn’t stick out as I had hoped. Too sweet for me as well.

@ molen tasting. A real taste bomb, has sweet malt, licorice, chocolate, sweet coffee and a hint of booze. I liked it, but it was a bit unbalanced.

Bottled @ de Molen tasting, small sample. Dark color, short head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, bit tar, molasses, coffee, dark chocolate. Quite thick sweet and bitter taste. Soft carbonation, big body. One to chew on. Way too alcoholic and boozy.

Bottle at the De Molen second Tuesday tasting August 2014. Poured a dark mahogany with a thin round frothy light tan head. The aroma big roasted malt, light molasses. The flavour is strong bitter light sweet with a rich fruity alcoholic bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle picked up from the Brewdog online shop, consumed at Isobels, Eardisley, Herefordshire, Friday 25th July 2014 Pours black, but its too dark outside for me to determine the colour of the head, a little chocolate. Easy drinking, smooth and alcohol shows but not too much. Its good but maybe not quite as good as I’d hoped. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4
