Imperial Porter.

Shall one compare thee to a fair beer,
Not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice.
Thou art more complex, brave and cunning.
Thou have changed more than a brew will ever.
Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.

Bottle @ MJ’s place. Pours a deep brown appearance with a brown head. Plum, fig, dark fruity, dark chocolate, light coffee aroma. Dark chocolate cake, fudge, vanilla, black cherry flavor. Velvety mouthfeel. Not overly sweet. Cool beer.

Inky black pour, wit a thick, frothy, dark tan head - intense but balanced nose of cocoa, espresso, light vinous notes, even some berry-ish fruitiness (raspberries, cranberries) - smells like a decadent raspberry chocolate cake - low, soft carbonation - sweet, for sure,, but tempered by deep roastiness and a late acidity that makes it seem drier than it actually is - rich flavors of bittersweet chocolate - slick, oily mouthfeel - some vinous character, raspberry - some tobacco notes in the finish - intense but wonderfully balanced - awesome beer.

Rerated 02.10.2013, 0,35l bottle @ home:
Nice brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet, dark malts, chocolate pudding, vanilla, dark sugar, toffee, hints of coffee and licorice. Taste is sweet and kind of harsh metallic, sugar, dark malts, chocolate, alcohol, harsh grass, metal can, thinner, oak, burnt coffee. Medium bitterness, dry burnt mouthfeel. Even though it was much better than the bottoms-version, this is still far from being up my alley.

Turned out to be the bottom of the keg. Hopefullt I?ll be able to rerate this at some point: Big brown slightly fizzy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly neutral and metallic, dark malts, dark fruits, sour coffee, caramel, chocolate, grass. Taste is dry and sour-ish, dark malts, dark fruits, metal, old sour coffee, wood, cocoa, burnt caramel. Mouthfeel is like drinking the sediments in a Turkish coffee, lots of sandy particles, dry and harsh as hell. Do not like!!
