Imperial Porter.
Shall one compare thee to a fair beer,
Not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice.
Thou art more complex, brave and cunning.
Thou have changed more than a brew will ever.
Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.

Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 Beers this beer poured thick and black with a medium sized foamy tan head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was very faint with notes of sweet malts, chocolate, anise and a touch of raisin - pleasant but very subdued. The flavor was toasty plum, raisin, chocolate and anise with a boozy and slightly astringent undertone. Long finish of chocolate, raising and anise with lingering booziness. Thick, creamy and smooth body. Interesting.

Deep dark brown coloured body with only a touch of light escaping at the sides with a chocolate milk and violet glow with no head at all - just an oily slick on top. Aroma of roasted malt, soy sauce, mushrooms, vanilla, oak, alcohol and a lot of caramelised sugars. Full-bodied; Strong assertive alcohol flavour up front with a lot of roasted malt, some dry oak and vanilla, a hit of oatmeal and anise with a warming feel and some nice sweetness at the end. Aftertaste revolves around the roasted malt, alcohol and spice combination with the sugars playing a nice subtle role and finishing dry from the oak. Overall, a fairly good strong porter with a ton of alcohol (and it shows) and a nice subtle spice and sweetness combination that works well and shows a moderate level of complexity. Nice to say that the beer is in a small format and a moderate price - very nice things to be seen! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Olive Tree Market Place in San Diego, California on 07-June-2013 for US$3.99 sampled at home in Washington on 02-September-2013.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with medium frothy tan head that lasts awhile leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a strong roast, chocolate, and smoke. Thin mouthfeel with very sweet chocolate flavor, light roastiness and nice lingering sweet finish. Hides alcohol well, a very impressive imperial porter form Evil Twin.

Pours black. Quite black. Tiny bit of brown at the edges but this beer is dark. A nice brown head puffed up at first, but it faded after a couple minutes, leaving behind some scummy-looking lacing. The aroma is sweet caramel and cocoa and a lightly acidic roast edge. There’s also a healthy dose of vanilla, dates and a touch of soy, which probably grows as the beer ages. Taste is sweet with lots of toasty malt flavors. Vanilla stands out. The sweetness starts out with light caramel and gets darker and darker. Big chocolate fading into coffee and roast at the end. Toffee, sherry, molasses, mild smoke. It’s a little bland upfront, but malt complexity comes out as the beer progresses. Letting the beer warm up helps a lot, too. The aftertaste is chocolate, sherry, Bailey’s, smoke and roasted coffee. The mouthfeel is thick and smooth. This beer isn’t quite as refined as the Jesus series, but it’s a dead solid imperial porter with a great mouthfeel and lots of good flavor for a pretty cheap price. Evil Twin is ridiculously good at making imperial porters/stouts.

Very respectable. Pours syrupy black without much head or lacing. Strong bitter coffee aroma with roast malt and booze and nut. Soft carbonation. Finishes very bitter. Consistency a little sticky. Lots of vanilla as well. Booze is well hidden. Tap at tap 42.

Whole Foods, Bowery 12oz ($4): Pours black with a wee brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malts, along with some vanilla and milk chocolate. Taste is pretty sweet. There is a wee bit of roasted malt bitterness, but it dissolves into a sweet and creamy aftertaste. Alcohol is superbly well hidden. I admit that I mostly purchased this because this beer has the same name as the worst rapper of all time--Lil B. If you want to hear something truly terrible, tune into some music by the "basedgod." Fortunately, this beer is much better than the rapper, much, much better.
