Imperial Porter.
Shall one compare thee to a fair beer,
Not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice.
Thou art more complex, brave and cunning.
Thou have changed more than a brew will ever.
Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours very dark brown/black with a creamy dark tan head. Aroma is sort of chocolate-treacle, then a hint of coffee. Full bodied. Flavor is coffee/chocolate treacle. It’s very smooth. Finishes not quite dry with some herb notes. Nice sipper.

Bottle. Pours with a pitch black hue and a menacing deep brown head that’s quite retentive. Glass coating. Aromas of Dark fruit, currant, licorice, iodine, tar, chocolate, alcohol, floral, raisinsted. Heavy esters, prunes and dates. Flavors are sweet, boozy, rummy, tar, dark fruit, a bit sugary feeling. Dry, slightly ashy roast. Big and viscous. Sugary mouth feel, lots of raisins. Possibly could be a bit more complex. Velvety mouthfeel, warming.

22 oz. bottle, pours near-black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark dried fruits, licorice, more dark dried fruits especially prunes - no roast, chocolate or espresso notes at all. Flavour is extremely rich, with dark dried fruits (prunes, figs, dates), some slight licorice, and candied sugar. Super viscous and syrupy - too cloyingly sweet and syrupy, making this extremely difficult to drink much of. I don't get the ratings on this one.

Draft. Blackish beer with a light tan head. Chooclate and light roast aroma with light nuttiness. Big dark chocolate flavor with light roast and toffee. Medium bodied. Big chocolate lingers with toffee, light licorice, and light roast.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with limited retention recedes to hug rim. Licorice, caramel and soy aromas. Thick with dark chocolate, soy, anise, and resin upfront and through the middle turning to a latte finish.

Draught @ Beer Revolution, Oakland
Pours pitch black with a tiny head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, molasses, hints of syrup and chocolate. Taste is roasty and sweetish with some molasses, chocolate, syrupy notes. Finish is smooth and full bodied with some sweetish and roasty notes. Nice, quite well balanced imperial porter, but a tad too sweet for my taste.
