Original Pub Style harkens back to the very first brews Gritty's produced at our Portland Brew Pub back in 1988. "We wanted to make a beer that captures what made people fall in love with craft brewing in the first place; a fresh, classic pale ale with plenty of hop character." says Brewmaster Ed Stebbins. Original Pub Style is a light copper-colored medium-bodied with a nice dry bite at the finish. A subtle combination of Cascade and Willamette hops give this ale a fine floral aroma and a slightly fruity aftertaste. The taste captures the freshness of a hand-crafted brew pub ale that goes right from the conditioning tank to your glass! Somewhat cloudy golden coloured body with tons of small bubbles, a very thin white head and a light copper coloured tint - decent looking, but nothing spectacular. Aroma of metal, blood, lemons, yeast and a bunch of malt - no hops at all to speak of. Light-bodied; Super mild malt flavour with lemons, rice and a tiny bit of hops that are noticed - definitely not enough to call this any sort of ’pale’. Aftertaste shows cardboard, metal, blood and nothing nice. Overall, a very bad choice for an APA - definitely not worth trying, even if you are looking for a different beer from a different state (maine). I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 08-January-2008.

This beer was brought to my by my friend Matt after a trip to Maine. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright orange-bronze color with a medium sized orange-white head. The aroma was sweet, fruity, tangy, spicy and nutty. The flavor was bitter and dry with a noted floral hop presence and a nutty malt base. A touch of butterscotch throughout.

A golden ale with a thick white head, quickly dissipating. Aroma is strong carmel and butterscotch, with emphasis on butter....In mouth, a sweetish malt comes, with notes of berries, and strong butter in finale. Pleasing at first, cloying at second, dissapointing in final. Bottle from Party Source, Syracuse.

On draught at the brewpub in Portland, 5/21/2005 with Muzzlehatch. Creamy honey and butter in the nose, light floral hops, notes of oranges. Amber-golden, clear, small white head recedes quickly to ring, with no lacing. Flavor is diacetyl, pale malt, light caramel and graham crackers, with a orange and pine finish, that is more flavorful than it is bitter. Medium to medium-light body, with moderate carbonation and a weak, watery mouthfeel, that seems too heavy for the relative lack of flavor. Maybe they should throw this in the cask.

[Cask at GBBF 2004] An amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet grassy combined with notes of oranges. The flavor is sweet with notes of peach and alcohol running over the tongue leading to a dry hoppy end. A boring beer.

Bright, light amber colour. Toasty, fruity hops and Ringwood esters. Crisp, toasty body. Blackberry esters noted. The finish is quick, slightly fruity and somewhat refreshing. One of those deja vu beers.
