If dogs are not against the grain, then at some point you surely have admired a Newfoundland (‘Newfs’ or ‘Newfies’). This dog is an eye catcher and with a reason – majestic, massive, and strong dog who shines with dignity and kindness.

This gentle giant has given the inspiration to “Jolly Newfie”. This beer is also large, black, and friendly. Pilsner malt, Vienna and Munich malt give the beer its powerful body, roasted malt gives the dark black color, Cascade and Citra Brand hops give the friendly taste of hops.

Unlike the dog breed legendary for its bravery, Newfie beer is unable to save your life. However, it can warm up a night out with friends.

Couple of 12oz bottles at an Italian joint in Tallinn, pours muddy black with some cloudy, cream colored head. Nose has burnt toast, malt, some pine, some soap. Flavor is well put together, burnt toast, molasses, a little burnt coffee bean, pine, soap, dried citrus peel. Finishes roasty, bitter and dry. Very well done.

(Keg at CBH2016) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had pine, burnt malts and coffee. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were pine, sweetness, burnt malts, liquorice and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, hoppy and bitter.  A nice black IPA.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Light chocolate aroma, molasses and some hops. The taste is more potent: sweetish black chocolate, some hops and hoppy and roasty bitter finish. Good.

Herb malziger Beginn, leicht würzig. Cremig, trocken herb werdend. Zum Ende eher belanglos, wenig intensiv. 10/9/8/7//8

Black-brown color with tan head. Aroma is spicy, liquorice, chocolate, hints of hops maybe. Taste is the same, but light. Some stickiness. Ok.

Many thanks to rosenbergh for this bottle! Fruity malty but minty beginning. Smooth chocolate body. The hops are floral but for me too mint. It fits very well. Smooth malty but not too bitter aftertaste. Round and smooth. Nice malty-bitter aftertaste.

33cl bottle @ Hopner. Pours black with a thin off white head. Chocolate, coffee, licorice in aroma. Citrusy, roasted malty flavor. Too old bottle (bbe 07/2015) but still drinkable.
