Cask at GBBF 2013. It pours darkest brown with a medium beige head. The nose is earth, smoke, honey-glazed ham, treacle, light cocoa and faint medicinal notes. The taste is smooth, roasty, bitter-sweet, smoke, earth, treacle, brown sugar and cola with a dry, sweetish finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Well-balanced and rather drinkable.

Cask at gbbf 2013. Hazed caramel colour halo of light tan head. Aroma is mapel sausage and light smoke. Sweetish. Brown malt flavour some mapel and roast in the finish. OK but a bit weird.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a clear dark amber brown with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of smoke with a back bone of sweet chocolate and dark grains. Flavor starts with sweet chocolate and a bit of toffee and a has a finish of light smoke.

Bottle split at Tony’s, from the Beer Shop LTD, 19/05/13. Very dark mahoogny brown with a thin beige head that clears to the edge and leaves a film. Nose is dark malt, light smoke, brown sugars, light shades of maple syrup. Taste comprises dark malt, touch of sugar, woody notes, smoke, some chocolate, maple syrup. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish. Decent enough smoked lager.

Draft @ Ward Eight, Lowell MA. 10 oz. mug shows deep brown in a poorly lit bar. Thin tan head some lace. Chocolate, light grain and subtle smoke. Flavor follows the nose with some coffee ground and caramel notes as well. I’m really glad the smoke is subtle. Texture is kind of sticky, light syrup. The body is exactly as it should be for a dark lager. This brewer pulled off a tuff thing to do for me. A smoked beer that I enjoyed drinking. Well done Gents!!

Bottle @ home via trade with Ernesto987. Thanks! Pours a hazy dark brown appearance with a nice brown head. Mild dark fruity (plum, fig), light leather, slightly burnt/smoky, nutty caramel, grassy aroma. Somewhat sweet caramel malty, toasty, a bit burnt, lightly smoked, chocolate, a bit nutty flavor. The smoke is very slight but the beer is overall pretty solid.

Good shit. 500mL bottle poured into a plastic cup at a hotel room while I watch Mark Wahlberg in Contraband, which pairs well with the beer. Despite all this the beer looks good. It pours with a medium thick head that leaves behind a slug of lacing. The beer, well, its almost a perfect melding of schwarz and rauch, equal parts represented without either dominating. The shwarz has a great chocolate lagered aspect and a smoked element that is present but nicely subdued into the black lager. Super clean with no flaws and so damn quaffable, I drank this up like it was nothing in a few minutes. I only picked up a single but I see why these are sold in 4 packs that were priced for $10.50, which seems like a great price point for such quality.

Aroma: The nose is fairly smokey with some roasted and burnt malts as well
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a brown head and some spotty lace
Flavor: On target with what you'd expect from the nose, smoke, some roast and light sweetness
Palate: The body is medium (leaning a drop toward full), with a fairly decent mouthfeel
Overall Impression: This is the first beer I have rated/tried from Jack's Abby. I thought this was a plenty solid smoked lager. It is worth trying for sure.

Bottle @ Chriso. Pours a dark amber color with a longlasting tan head. Has a roasted malty grainy caramel licorice aroma with weak hints of smoke. Roasted malty grainy smoky caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty carmale and chocolate finish.
