Kasteel Rouge is a unique blend of Kasteel Donker and macerated cherries. The ruby red colour, the rich foamy head and the sweet attack result in a specialty beer with a balanced taste and subtle hints of cherries. This fruity beer is everybody’s friend and makes a great aperitif on a sunny terrace. Are you ready for la vie en Rouge?

330 ml bottle. Dark red brown with a rose head. Black Forest cake, dark cherry, fudge, toffee, chocolate, brownies. Boozy chocolate sweetness, cherry sweetness, dry sourness. Full bodied, oily slick texture, lively carbonated, dry boozy sweet finish. Really good!

0,33 l bottle. Pours crimson with small, light pinky head. Aroma of cherries, sweet and slightly sou at same time. Malt in the background, caramel and almond, mildly tarty. Taste is light sweet, sour and bitter. Finish is fruity, plenty of cherries. Not the most complex, but very decent and drinkable.

Bottle from a shop in Leipzig, i think. Drunk after a nice beef stew my wife made. Dark brown with red tones, pinkish-team head. Nose is very cherry, a bit sweet and artificial mayhaps. Rather sweet caramel on the tongue, not as crazy sweet as I remember their 11 percenter as being. Nice little bit of bitterness at the end, though it could use three times as much to balance it out. Lots of cherry flavor from the liquor added, I guess some artificial flavor there.

Crystal clear red beer, thick off white head. Smells of boozy cherry. Flavour has sharp cherry up front, some malty, a bit of boozy warmth. Not loads else going on but it packs a punch and makes you respect the strength of it.

0.33l bottle. Clean ruby body with a pinkish head. Sour cherry dominates the character of the beer. It has notes of molasses and some cocoa too, but they are really just serving the purpose of making the beer not too one dimensional. Ok beer, but lacks the complexity to be a top noch one.
