(bottle) Clear deep ruby red with off white, almost tan head. Aroma mixes dark toffee and spice. Medium body and a little over carbonated. Flavour starts with burnt toffee and progresses to a bitter finish that is a rather harsh mx of the burnt notes and hops. Overall a bit challenging to my taste buds

Poured from 500ml bottle at home (Dec ’11). Pours a rich dark amber colour, with reddish brown hues. Smells of chocolate and toffee, slightly malty, no real overbearing aroma’s, a nice subtle mix. Tastes of caramel, toffee, malt, faint hints of chocolate, bitter but not too so. Mouthfeel, slightly dry finish but this makes you want more!

50cl bottle from ABCBeers. decent white head. Ruby/red pour. Nice bitterness. Another good St Peters beer.

Cask from The Orange Tree, Chelmsford, Essex. Previously enjoyed bottled a number of times, and considered my favourite St Peter’s beer (having a while back bought selection box from them - brewery is local to me in Suffolk) but cask version, unusually, did not seem as good as bottle. Lovely rich ruby red colour probably the highlight, but not particularly inspiring otherwise.

Clear red - brown beer. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Nicely balanced beer. Malt hits you immediately. Unsweet toffee malt with a slightly aged feel. Nicely balanced by some fruity marmalade orange hop coming through. Finishes with a neutral palate and just slightly bitter.

Normal St Peter’s green bottle, best before 12 Aug 09, drank 22 Jan 09. Poured into a ’Forbidden Fruit’ chalice (twice). Surprise, surprise the colour is ruby red, well almost and the weak almost non-existant head was an off white scummy covering which fell away very swiftly. Aroma of yeast and hops with very little else until it warmed, then some sweeter notes arrived (toffee and caramel?). The taste is bitter and fairly hoppy, there is a tangy, spritzy feel to the brew, so it is obviously well carbonated although there were no visable bubbles rising up the beer. I liked it, but I couldn’t stay on it all night.

Cask at The Jerusalem Tavern, London, during my Friday Night Walking Solo Pub Crawl While the Missus is Out of Town. Pours dark, red-brown with a foamy, white head. Dark bread nose. Light to medium sweet with some burnt caramel, toasted dark bread, faint dark fruits. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy dark malt finish, some plastic, earth, moss, tangy caramel. Nothing special here.

Aroma has some sweet, resin-like hops and peppery spices. Also hints of vanilla. Flavour is a bit weird with peppery spices, some grapefruit-like hops and sweetish caramel malt. Also hints of vanilla and berries. Spicy finish. Not your typical bitter, but not bad either.
