Pours a rich mahogany with an off-white head that rings the glass. Sweet malt with caramel and toast on the nose, a little maple syrup. Medium-full palate at first, but is fleeting and doesn’t round out as expected. Lots of great malt and nice crispness.

I waited a few years for my bottle shop to get this. Smell is a little cababge like when you pop the lid on this green bottle. Appearance is quite dark brown with no gunk on the bottom of the bottle. Taste has some dark roasty attributes but for the most part it is quite laid back. No real alky is apparent thru the session. Some good carbonation but not sizzling by any extent. Fairly freindly and well mannered but perhaps not as well behaved as other good dunkels such as Penn Dark or Agel City or Weltenburger. Finish has lazy linger of burnt wood that has been extibguished by a mid summer rain.

Appearance: Pours a dark reddish brown with very little head (tan) that disappears fast and no lace left in the glass.
Aroma: Grainy malt with some caramel
Taste: Roasted malt with some grain, caramel and sweetness. The finish is crisp and clean with no aftertaste.
It would be easy to drink a few of these.

Pour is a cola brown with a average white head. Aroma is mild roasted malts with some sweet caramel. Flavor is again sweet malts with some wet paper bag showing up. Totally average in every way.

12oz bottle at the Brickskeller. Amber-brown color, filtered and transparent. Minimal quick-fading head. Sweet brown sugar malt taste, quite smooth and well done. Not cloying, pungent, and/or thick like some Dunkels, this is quite well balanced. Caramel and toffee notes. Not much hop presence at all, in accord with the style. Pretty good.

bottle - Pours medium brown with a thin head. It smells mainly of caramel malt. The flavor is sweet lightly roasted malt and not much else. It’s light bodied, simple, drinkable, and underwhelming.

bottle. meh, not my favorite even though Optimator is one of my alltime favorites. bottle had was kinda skunky in smell but was pretty smooth. i would have again but wouldn’t go out of my way for it

Bottle. Pours with a fading off-white head over a clear brown body. Aroma of grain, light lightstruck hops(skunk), caramel malt. Taste is malty, lightly skunky, with cracker and caramel. Fizzy carbonation, dryish finish, boring.

(Draught at Waldwirtshaft Grosshesselhoe, München) Clear dark brown color, tan head. Butterscotch mixed with sweet toffee and vanilla scent. Roasted malty sweet taste with hints of coffee in the aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel and bitterness.
