Aromas are a little like scotch ale. Flavors are a lot like nose, lots of malt with maybe a little peat and a touch of roast. On the sweet side with just enough bitter and carbonation to balance. Not bad, not great.

Pours red and lightly hazy with a small quickly fading head. It smells of whisky, oak, caramel malt, and holiday spices. The taste is sweet and smooth with whisky, oak, spices, vanilla, and caramel. Delicious.

12 ounce bottle. 2020 vintage rated at 10.5% ABV. Copper colored with a small rocky beige head. Sweet toasted malt flavor has notes of oak and whiskey. Notes of dark dried fruit and brown sugar. Quite tasty.

Bottle from chalet. Nose is volatile whisky & beer malts. Brownish (sepia?) colored beer mostly clear, iced tea in looks. Taste is certainly heavy in whisky flavors, rather rude. If I want whisky, I'll drink whisky, why put it in a beer? In Beaver County PA we call this a boilermalker, look it up. At least this beer isn't soaked with the typical xmas spices you get in so many holiday brews. Its simply a slightly darker beer with whisky in it. As it goes down, it has a slight warming sensation about it. In the middle of the session, the whisky attributes cannot be ignored. Towards the end, somebody looking for a good beer experience, may be a little bored. However, a whisky lover who does not particularly care for beer will probably like this combination. Me? Not impressed.

12 ounce bottle, 7/4/20. Bought at Woodman's Appleton on clearance a while back. Touring the states on this holiday, so far ticks from OH, WI, MI, NY, CA, and now CO. Clear copper, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toffee, spice, whiskey. Taste is toffee, cherry, raisin, spice, whiskey, vanilla, oak. Medium bodied, flat. Warming. No booziness and very smooth. Nice

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2015 vintage bottling. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, brown bread, toasted oak, whiskey, coconut, raisin, plum, apple, light chocolate, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, brown bread, toasted oak, whiskey, coconut, raisin, plum, apple, light chocolate, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and whisky/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted brown bread, whiskey, coconut, raisin, plum, apple, light chocolate, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/oak spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome English strong ale style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

On tap @ Rattle N Hum. This is a clear dark nut red one with a small islandy light beige top. Raisin sweet malty and almost red on the aroma with some nuts. Absolutely nice. It has a soft prickling carbonation level and a oily sticky mouthfeel. In the taste I get red fruits, lots if malty richness and there is perhaps even a little bit of smoke hidden in between here? Not sure, but I am sure that it's not a bad one. 13.06.2013

Drought. Dark brown with tan creamy head, good long retention, slight chocolate aroma, average carbonation, a hint of sour cherry in your taste buds, long finish. Nice smooth ale.
