Bottle @ family weekend in Germany, bought at local Getrankemarkt. Clear a bit pale golden color, average sized white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Smell and taste moderately malty, light hay, suprisingly a light citrussy hint, average bitterness. Average body and carbonation. Decent..

A Kölsch - not really from Cologne though - for Weiberfastnacht: 0,33 l bottle from Biermuseum in Cologne, best before 2/2015. Minimally hazy, golden yellow with a touch of brown, fine-pored, creamy, stable, white head. Really nice and fresh citrusy aroma, detecting some lemon and white grapes with hints of honey. Interesting sweetish tase dominated by honey with some citrusy notes and green apple. Short, slightly bitter and pleasant finish. Thin to medium body but not watery, almost creamy mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Really nice surprise, doesn’t taste like any of the Kölsch I’ve had before. Very refreshing and not too sweet but just enough. Good!

Tap @ Pfaffen Ausschank Koln, medium sample. Clear yellow color, short white head. Soft aroma of earthy and bit grassy hop. Medium bitter in taste. Lacks a bit character actually. I wasnt impressed at all.

Thanks to Erzengel for that bottle. Looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, nice head. Starts mild, fine malty, modest sweet. More and more like chewing gum with intense malty-sweet notes, modest fruity. Not very dry. Finish still with that chewing gum not, less intense. Strange, but interesting.

The beer starts smooth, malty and easy drinkable. The mainpart is smooth, malty. Not too sweet, not watery. The aftertaste is smooth, hints of bitterness, not too deep in aroma, but more than many other Kölschs. Slightly grainy and easy to drink!

Duller colour. Has a somewhat heavy, grainy character. Dryish finish. Not the brightest klsch around.

200 ml. draft @ Ausschank Pfaffen Brauerei Max Päffgen. Pours a clear golden, white head, head is a touch smaller than with some of the other examples. Nose is musty grains in a good way, citrus peel, mushroom, very different from the other examples I tried prior to this one, very interesting. Tastes of citrus & lemon peel, herbs, light mushroom, lots of grains, sweetish yeast, some sweetness & light grass. Slightly grainy feel, very easy to drink & very interesting. Actually preferred this one quite a bit over Päffgen as did everyone else in the group, this one seems to score significantly less. Lovely stuff.
