Strong body and powerful flavour ale but that offers a ‘velvet sip’. The vanilla flavour, from Madagascar beans, stands out above roasted, cocoa and coffee notes. Plato 22.4°.

8th July 2016: RBESG. Once we had tried the on tap selection at Bodega Fermin five of us chose a bottle each for the gathering to share. This was the best of those five in my opinion. Black hue to the dark brown body, small off-white head. Liquorice and vanilla in a malty nose. Vanilla rules the smooth tasting flavours with some dark fruit and coffee action coming into play. The alcohol is well hidden by the flavours and although not suited to the heat of a Barcelona mid-day session it went down very well with me..

Bottle at home. Black with barely any head just some dark beige bubbles. Strong roasted notes, English hops, licorice, aniseed, lots of vanilla, burnt coffee, molasses, burnt caramel. Mostly all kinds of strong roasted notes which makes for an over medium bitterness. Medium sweet. Medium bodied with a bit watery feel and no carbonation. A bit unbalanced and it would probably benefit from some carbonation.

Bottle, white label, 2015. Tasted 17.5.2016. Very dark colour, small brownish head. Moderate peat in both aroma and flavour. Also rich and complex caramel, chocolate. Quite good. 3,8 Rerate sometime in 2023, tap at Beer Geek. Full body, medium carbonation. Only light warmth, relatively easy drinking. Subtle background vanilla. Lots of chocolatey malty character. Not the most complex one, feels rather simple, but it is tasty, nice. I like it. 3,8
