Strong body and powerful flavour ale but that offers a ‘velvet sip’. The vanilla flavour, from Madagascar beans, stands out above roasted, cocoa and coffee notes. Plato 22.4°.

Pitch black, tan head. Aroma of vanilla, cacao, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, liquorice. Sweet malty flavour, molasses, brown sugar, quite bitter. Finish bitter roasted malts, hops (sorachi ace?), vanilla, liquorice. Nice!

The color is very dark brown, near black, almost no head. Some vanilla and dark bread aroma, some milk chocolate. Low carbonation, strong vanilla chocolate flavor, moderate sweetness, luckily a bit more roastiness in the final; hints of tobacco.
Among vanilla beers, one of the best, still not my favorite substyle. Good beer.

Bottle - Vanilla and molasses. Deep brown with almost no head. Vanilla and sweet woody notes with some molasses. There is an underlying woody bitterness that isn’t pleasant.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / black with a very small murky brown head. Aroma is very harsh, with bone dry, burnt roasted malt, and bitter dark cocoa powder. Flavour is very bitter and harsh, with burnt malt and bitter dark cocoa powder. Body is fairly thin, and finishes with low-medium residual sweetness. Bizarre stuff; very harsh and bitter, almost with an umami note. Interesting stuff.

Bottle 330 ml. Almost black with dark brown fine foam. Excellent aroma: sweet shades of vanilla, chocolate and coffee + caramel and brandy. Taste powerful and velvety: bitter black coffee without sugar, but with vanilla, chocolate and cognac, caramel, slightly dried fruit, bitter-sweet (resin-pine hops). Great beer!

Bottle 33 cl. Vintage 2015. Pours a dark brown with an orange he and a small, beige head. Very intense, sweet vanilla in the nose, overpowering pretty much everything. Rich body, lowish carbonation, sweet roast, sweet vanilla, some licorice and some late malt bitterness. The arima is a bit cloying to me. 030816
