Strong body and powerful flavour ale but that offers a ‘velvet sip’. The vanilla flavour, from Madagascar beans, stands out above roasted, cocoa and coffee notes. Plato 22.4°.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Pitch black, thick, almost no head. The aroma is quite simple - vanilla and caramelized marshmallow - feels more like a desert than a beer. Not much roasty notes. The taste also starts vanilla sweet, followed by some sweet chocolate flavoured liqueur and a bitter grassy bitter finish. Does not have the smoothness of the better stouts. Somewhat disappointing.

Dark, thick pour with almost no head. It smells incredible, of vanilla and cocoa and faintly of coffee. Huge vanilla taste, together with coffee and milk chocolate, raw cocoa and a slight spiciness. Surprisingly light bodied, which is one of the few defects this beer has. It could also do with a bit more sweetness. It’s been a while since I had my last bottle of Ballast Point’s Victory at Sea, but this beer seems very similar to that one. Good stuff!

Bottle split at Lemmy’s, Leiden, with Kenny and James 26/09/15. Black topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is rich vanilla, chocolate, light spice, background hops, malt, toffee. Taste comprises Terrys chocolate orange, spice, booze exhaust, rich maltings. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, sweetish close. Ok if a touch 1D, all choccy and vanilla, doesn’t really hang together all that well.

Post Borefts VII, Day 2 - Leiden walkabout. Bottle at Lemmy’s. Semi opaque oily looking dark brown beer, a few pale tan bubbles. Vanilla and dark chocolate nose. Palate is smooth with mild fine carbonation. Taste follows the nose. Lightly tangy dark fruits. Smooth finish. Decent.

Sample at SBWF. Black colour with thin beige head. Aroma of vanilla, coffee, roasted malt and milk chocolate. Flavour is medium sweet with loads of vanilla, milk chocolate, liquorice and roasted malt leading to bitter finish with more vanilla.

Grande,

Sample at SBWF 2015. Black with a minimal tan head. Really a lot of vanilla both in the aroma and taste. Also chocolate, some roasted malt and warming alcohol. The body was almost full and the finish long and sweet.
