Originally designed to be a hoppier version of our flagship Saison, the accidental (but fortuitous) addition of two extra bags of Munich malt balanced out the hop bitterness leaving us this very unique beer. Tropic King bursts with fruity tropical characteristics from the use of New Zealand hop varietals. This beer is a flavor extravaganza that has developed a loyal following. Notes of passion fruit, mango, pepper, and ginger.
Pairs well with hula hooping.

Bottle shared by Adam, thanks! Pours a cloudy light gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a sweet earthy grain note with a bit of caramel and light fruit. Flavor has a good amount of caramel and sweet grains with a nice grass backing.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks eyes_wide_shut and YK23. As Funkwerks Tropic King Imperial Saison. Hazy golden with big frothy white head. Aroma of carambolka, pear, a bit of peaches, more fruits and some earthy yeast. Fruity and spicy flavor with yeast and a dry and rather bitter finish with a bit of citric notes. Medium-bodied. Good stuff. Alcohol is pretty well-hidden.

Bottle. Cloudy orange-brown with a hig, fine head. Funky, dusty nose with a bit of veggies and some spice. Estery flavor, peaches, dust, sweet! Bit too sweet and estery for a saison, but interesting and decent.

Sample at Kurtβs 49th birthday party. Pours a hazy golden color with a medium ivory white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Fruity aroma with some wheat in the background. Medium body with a tropical fruit character and notes of wheat and yeast. The finish is fruity with a short mildly spiced aftertaste. Decent beer overall.

Rated at the 2012 RB Pgh May tasting. Big thanks to Horny Devil. Nice big foamy head. A slightly fruity aroma with a farmy background. Lots of co2 on the palate but its a gentle non-sizzling kind of co2; nice. Burns a little going down the hatch. Fading lacing. Volatile on the olfactory after a while. Fairly alky forward. Finish is warming.

It was decent, but kind of a let down for my first Funkwerks beer.

Bottle at Camp Beer IX. Pours a cloudy yellow with white head and sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is floral hops and fruit. Thin mouthfeel with a ginger and pepper flavor with light dry finish. A good saison from Funkwerks.
