As the first new beer to be brewed in Windsor for nearly 80 years GUARDSMAN is how we think every Best Bitter should taste. Guardsman is a lovely copper-coloured session strength ale with a tangy taste and a really fresh hop finish. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of Pilgrim, Styrian Golding and Fuggles hops.

Cask pint at Wetherspoons, Victoria Station, London. Copper colour, low off-white head. Moderate aroma, malts, toffee and a hint of fruity hops. Pleasant flavour, decent hops with a hint of blackcurrants, malty and nutty notes too. Good beer.

Cask at the Lyndhurst, Reading. Amber-brown with a moderate white head. Predominantly oaky flavour with a little caramel, unripe apple and grapefruit- not sure the grapefruit really goes. Slightly dry finish. Below par compared to what I’ve come to expect from this brewery, but not bad.
