As the first new beer to be brewed in Windsor for nearly 80 years GUARDSMAN is how we think every Best Bitter should taste. Guardsman is a lovely copper-coloured session strength ale with a tangy taste and a really fresh hop finish. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of Pilgrim, Styrian Golding and Fuggles hops.

Cask gravity at ’The Hangi’ nr Charlton-on-Otmoor Saturday 13th October 2012 Decent but drinking alongside Knight of the Garter and also Eton Boatman this is found wanting a little. Hoppiness is good but wish it could be a bit hoppier, a little thin but overall decent enough. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Served via cask dispense at the Half Moon, Windlesham (April ’12). Copper in colour both pints I sampled were fairly lively and came with a decent frothy white head. On the nose the aroma was fairly subdued, a little caramel and a pinch or two of malt came over to me. Pleasant but not dominant. Flavours were more dominant than the nose and pretty much spot on for a 4.2% bitter. Slight sweet taste to this beer, malt and caramel as per the nose and a bitter hoppy finish. Medium bodied with a mild mouthfeel, a little carbonation but in no way watery. Very good in this respect. Overall another good beer from Windsor & Eton, actually drank this whilst eating curry and it paired well!

Clear amber beer, small light beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: nutty, malts, caramel, some toast. MF: no carbon, light to medium body. Taste: bit malty, herbal, nutty, toast, little caramel, fruity bitterness. Aftertaste: dry bitter, little herbal. Not bad.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is toasted malty and light citrusy hoppy. Bitter, toasted malty and slight citrusy. Bitter and toasted malty finish.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a clear amber with a small off-white head. Caramellish nose. Light body, heavy caramel and a little nuts. Ends dry with a little hops. Pleasant alright. 011211
