It’s hard being the sequel, unless you wrote the original story. Inspired by the continual hopping process we invented with 90 Minute IPA, 60 Minute builds on that one-of-a-kind process and flavor, crafting a solid gold hit that’s found its own identity.
Brewed using a boatload of intense Northwest hops, we boil this continually hopped IPA for a full 60 minutes, adding more than 60 hop additions continuously to create a bold and timeless flavor. Continually hopped to deliver a pungently, citrusy, grassy hop flavor without being crushingly bitter, 60 Minute IPA is a surprisingly sessionable IPA for the craft enthusiast.

The Greatest Invention You’ll Ever Taste
It was back in the mid-90s when we started messing around with extreme versions of super hoppy IPAs. We would use foolhardy amounts of hops, creating a really pronounced bitterness that seemed out of place.
After an ‘aha!’ moment while watching a cooking show on TV, Dogfish Head founder & CEO Sam Calagione tracked down one of those old school vibrating football games to help feed the beer a continual stream of hop pellets. Boom! Continual hopping was born!
You see, traditionally brewers make two hop additions - one big dose early in the boil for flavor, and another bunch at the end for aroma. But thanks to a rigged up football-machine-turned-continual-hopper and our addition of equal increments throughout the entire boil, Sam was able to create an outrageously hoppy IPA, without being crushingly bitter.
Now all these years later, and after much more sophisticated second, third and fourth generation contraptions have taken over our continual hopping process, the theory and execution are essentially unchanged.
In 2019 we celebrate the 20th anniversary of continual hopping and the really special experience that comes with it. Who knew that a thrift store game and a random cooking show would put us on a path to creating ‘the greatest invention you’ll ever taste.’

Bottle thanks to Ashton McCobb. Pours clear gold with a thin white head. Aromas of plant stalk, pine, resin. Taste is sweet at the start, then a big whack of bitterness, cleaning up at the finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle thanks to Tom. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head. Light hop haze. Nose - citrus, flowers and plant stalks. Taste - big citrus, and more big citrus. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - beautifully balanced.

Bottle from Epsom Circle Market, Epsom, NH. Aroma is hoppy cedar and a little bit earthy and grassy over some bready malts. Appearance is clear golden yellow with really nice sparkle, finger-width fluffy white head and decent lacing. Taste is mainly light bitter--pleasantly hopped, but there is some fruity sweetness. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture with mildly bitter finish. This was good. This is a re-rate and the one I had before was hazy, minimal head, not as aromatic, no sparkle and carbonation was an unpleasant zing to the mouth. Given the acclaim and love for this beer, I suspect the first one was the aberration (it also may have been a bit old) and the second more representative. Overall, it is hoppy, but not disgustingly so, and is an above-average IPA. I’m still not sure it’s as good as its reputation.

Bottle. Pours a golden amber color with an off white head. Aroma is pine and grapefruit. Taste is nicely balanced with the malt profile. Medium body and carbonation. Moderately bitter finish. Pretty solid IPA.

2016 Rerate: Bottle from Gambrinus. Pours a deep gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Light citrus, orange, honey and bread on the nose. Clean and crisp. Nice honey finish with prickly bitterness. A classic. Old rating. Bottle from old town. Pours a hazy gold color with a big off-white head. Huge citrus, grapefruit and pine notes on the nose. Perfectly banged hops and malts leave this sweet, bitter and fruity on the palate. Just a perfect IPA a. Great clean crisp finish with some sweetnes.

go figure i didn’t ever taste this one until now. 3252 ratings, on this beer, i’ll be 3253. clear yellow, smooth offwhite head. Aromatic and flowery and bitter hoppy aroma, some malty base. Flavor is malty, bitter hoppy, slightly flowery hoppy, some sweet caramelly or sweet malty notes. quite delicious.

A hazy, golden beer with a medium and blond head. The nose has lots of fructose and tropical fruits, peaches, pineapples and some grapefruits. Taste has tropical fruits, some peaches. After the fruity beginning the medium bitterness tastes and it’s slightly piney. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, smooth enough. Good, easy to enjoy and tropical beer but as five months old the age has already done some damage.

Very grassy in both aroma and flavor. Not much by way of hop flavor in this one. Little by way of head, seems a bit watery in the body as well. Kind of lackluster, actually.
