Copenhagen beer festival. Opaque black beer with a tan head. Smooth sweet dark malty beer with very well blended nettley hops. Soft and semi dry palate. Tasty Black IPA!

Bottled 500ml. -Pitch black coloured, medium sized brown head, roasty and slight alcoholic nose with hint of hops. Roasted malt, chocolate and hops with quite alcoholic but pleasant notes. Bitter roasty finish. Well balanced black IPA.

Heh, everyone loved the label on this one (even the non beer people that saw it :)). Courtesy of ogivlado who shared it with me and heavy. Poured a black body tinged with amber. Ochre head, small. Malty soft nose, propolis, sticky, slightly roasty, kinda nice. Soft roasty taste with light herbal notes, creamy. Not much notes on this one, they end with this sentence: "Not a proper Black IPA, but a lovely beer."

Bottle: Literally black, bigger creamy and lacy tanned head; sicyherbal hops in the nose, covering stouty aromas like vanilla, leather and tobacco; strong dry bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied; ashy aromas in the imperial-stout-like finish. Pleasant and good, but not superb.......

Bottle from Olbutikken, Copenhagen. Black pour with a generous tan head. Some nice roast and fragrant hop character evident in the nose. Similar story in the flavour with some tasty chocolate and fruit lurking also. Dry bitter finish. Enjoyable stuff. Really dig this style.

(bottle) Looks like a Stout: black as tar coloured hue with a brown, dense and tall foamy head. Rich and roasted malty aroma with chocolate, leather, mocha and a distinctively herbal and spicy hoppy touch. Sweet and roasty bitter flavour, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Stout-like taste with hearty roasted malt and notes of chocolate, leather and a tinge of vanilla; moderately sweet and roasty bitter finish with herbal hoppy notes lingering into the aftertaste. More an (Imp.) Stout than an IPA. 06.IV.11

Pours black with a large lasting tan head.Nose shows plenty of roasted malt with hints of ground coffee and dark chocolate. In the background there’s piney and resinous hops.Very similar flavours but rather sweet with big syrupy character. Very full-on.Rich slick mouthfeel with low carbonation that really could be upped a bit.

0.5l bottle @ Naboen, Bergen. Pours a black body with a big two fingersized everlasting tanned head. Nose is chocolate, quite distinct grassy hops along with some grassy herbs. "Oheo" this was different! Strong coffee beans, weak chocolate on the top of all those piny hops. Slightly warming, full-bodied and discreet carbonation. Ends in a malty, hopy and lightly dry finish. I always get surprised when drinking black ipas, and with this in quite a good way.

Bottle. Black with a large light tan head that never quite disappears. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, chocolate, singed malt, nectarines. Taste is fairly sweet with citrus and a little roasted bitterness - a it like dark chocolate flavoured with grapefruit. Some coffee and stone fruits too. A little rye grainy sourness. Medium bodied. Alcohol sticks out a little at the end along with chocolate and citrus. With all that going on it could be a thumping mess, but although it’s not exactly harmonious the disparate flavours don’t clash. They do, however, obscure each other a bit.
