Growler shared in NYC - thanks to drsandman! Pours deep brown with a frothy beige head. Nice aroma, some good roast, grapefruit, burnt grass, dry cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with mild alcohol, ashy roast, baking cocoa, charred pine, chalk. Medium bodied, a little chewy, with average carbonation. Sturdy bitter roast finish, plenty of scorched earth, baking cocoa, citrus pith. Good stuff.

Draught @ Other Half Brewing, Brooklyn

Pours pitch black with a thick head. Aroma of roasty malts, fruits, hints of licorice, coffee and hops. Taste is wet hoppy, roasty and salty with hints of licorice, coffee and dark chocolate. Finish is crisp, bitter and roasty with some wet hoppiness. Okay, a bit unbalanced.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate malts, some piney hops, some roast. Taste is hoppy at the front and a bit bitter. Porter backbone melds well with it. Not too much of the citrus hops that are often found in Black IPAs. Easy to drink. Quite nice.

Tap at the Jeffrey as I run some errands this cold Saturday. Pours deep blackish brown. Nose is piney hops and hint of cocoa. Tastes of pine, roasted malt, rootbeer, and earthy bitterness. Medium bodied and refreshing.
