Amber Farmhouse ale

This deep amber hued ale takes it's inspiration from Germany while still nodding to the Belgian farmhouse tradition. The base is comprised of German two-row wheat, Cara-Munich, and roasted barley. Generously hopped with a blend of Perle, Spalt, and Hallertau Mittelfrüh, and fermented with a rustic Belgian farmhouse ale yeast. These elements together provide a melange of earth and fruit aromas backed with hints of caramel and a dry clean finish.

Dark brown caramel colour, white head. Earthy farm aroma, light candy, lots of caramel, fruity yeast, some wood. Sweetish flavour, caramel, candy sugar, slight tartness coming through, but it seems only to be adding to the sweetness. Tobacco and wood come up. Medium body, slightly bitter malty finish with fruity tones.
(From 75cL bottle @ RBBWG 2012, Antwerpen. Thanx for sharing, Bart!)

75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBWG 2012 – thx to Bart – Bordeaux amber with a white head, smells of sweet dark malts, dark fruits & spices, slightly creamy with wood, taste is velvety with dark fruits, caramel, molten brown sugar, sweet liquid thick oak wood, touch black pepper, saison yeast, touch bitterness from hops, parks in autumn, slightly tart, yummy

66cl bottle @ RBBWG 2012, Antwerpen courtesy of Bart. Sympa.

Cream head over fully hazy amber-brown beer. Chocolate, tobacco, bit of wood and velvet aromas; nice combination. Again chocolate and wood in the mouth, but pretty sweet. Brown candi sugar, caramel, and indeed, autumn leaves. Finish is markedly drier. Spritzy MF, medium bodied and quite slick. Nice, and I can dig the farmhouse ànd the autumnal references, much better than I did in the Stateside Saison.

Shared 650ml bottle at Håndverkerstuene. Deep mahogany coloured body, firm off-white head slowly reduced to a tiny layer. Malty base to the nose added by dried fruits like figs. Mid-sweet malts in flavour alongside elements of spices and dark fruits. Dry and smooth on the swallow. Almost full bodied. Good, however, a bit dull in the long run (Oslo, 12.12.2011
