This is a classic American Porter, poured on tap it has a good head that stays and leaves a nice lace. It is defined by its chocolate malt, medium body, and smooth mouthfeel. Balanced by the Golding and Columbus hops on the finish is a hint of bitterness. Don’t be afraid of the dark.

Draft at Brewvival 2012. Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, faint fruity notes. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, fruits and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of my brother Justin. Thanks! Deep brown/black appearance with a light brown head. Roasty, chocolate, nutty aroma. Nutty, roasty, dark toffee, caramel, chocolate malty flavor with some bitterness on the finish. Pretty good brew.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and coffee aroma. Roasted malty chocoalte flavor. Has a roasted malty chooclate and coffee finish.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with amber hues. The aroma is bitter chocolate, bread, and sugar. The flavor is light roasted malts and a undercurrent of hop bitterness and saltiness. The palate is light and smooth, and a little acidic. Overall, a good beer.

12 oz bottle sent to me by my 2010 winter Secret Santa. Best by 01/10/11 on the label. Pour is a hazed black with some ruby highlights. Small light khaki head. Aroma is clean roast and toasty malt. Some baking cocoa lingering. Taste is the roast, along with some caramel apple fruit sweetness, and a mild sourness that worked with the roast and sweet. Not sure if its intentional, but it works. Palate is thin to medium, light bodied for a typical American Porter, but made this quite drinkable with an ever so mild sour finish. Finish also has the cocoa sweetness of the nose. Interesting, thanks Santa.

This beer came to me in my beer club. I am not familiar with the brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is light roasty malts and a hint of chocolate. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The flavor is bitter and tangy with light roasted malts and a light chocolate element on the finish.

Dark black porter, with collapsing moka head. Light chocolate aroma with light coffee notes. In mouth, a sourish metallic bitter chocolate, a bit bilous and unpleasant. This beer did not wistand the test of time. From Goldtwins, May 2004.

Bottle (courtesy of Brentfresh): Poured a pitch-black color porter with a medium off-white creamy head with good retention. Aroma of sweet roasted malt with a lingering bitterness. Taste is also a nice mix between roasted malt and some bitterness at the end. Better then average porter though nothing to write home about.

Deep red-brown (yeah, translucent) body, thin cream head. Roasted malt aroma with chocolate and earthy hops. Chocolatey body is a bit sweet with hints of dark fruit, including a touch of Concord grape, and earthy hops balance. Finishes a bit chalky. All in all, pretty average and nondescript. Thanks to a yet-to-subscribe-to-RB beer drinker for this one!

Bottled, thanks SpringsLicker! Very dark brown, airy head. Vinous coffee nose. Roasty and light bodied with sharp mouthfeel. Metallic, lightly bitter finish.
