The call from fall. Wilhelm Scream is ripe with fall flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel malts. Medium-bodied and the color of orange setting suns, it finishes similar to the way we finish summer: with just a hint of bitterness.

Sampled from the bottle. Pours a clear copper amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is mainly pumpkin spice with grain and sweet bread supporting. Flavor has more bread and grain with a pumpkin spice finish.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy to semi-transparent burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than thirty seconds leaving barely any lacing sticking around the glass.
The smell starts off with a sharp sweet pumpkin spice with a light little bit of vanilla almost pie crust - like quality.
The taste was somewhat sweet with a light pie-like crustiness roving into a semi-spicy/slightly dry-like almost sweet vanilla. The aftertaste had semi-sweet pie-like aftertaste. It has a dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs somewhat light. Definitely dry.
Overall, I say this was a decent pumpkin ale. Though I had low expectations, Magic Hat did what was expected for the style.

Bottle. Deep copper in colour, with a slight, and short-lived, white head. Spicy upfront, with some cinnamon and toffee, bready malts and a gentle finish. Fine.

Bottle from San Juan. Deep amber-chestnut brown color, small off-white head. Caramel, rye and pumpkin in the flavor. Medium-bodied. Toffeish, pumpkin spiced flavor. Sweetish pumpkin beer and somewhat drinkable.

bottle - Pours clear amber-orange with a small off-white head. It has a pumpkin pie aroma and taste. It’s sweet but not overly so. Nothing jumps out about this one but it’s fairly good.

12oz bottle pours with a clear copper to amber colored body that supports an off white head. The aroma offers up somewhat malt smoothed over cinnamon, nutmeg and a light ginger sensation and then a bit of pumpkin followed by sugar malts and booze. The taste starts with malt sweetness, a bit of pumpkin and a mix of cinnamon and nutmeg spiciness. To midway the modest pumpkin note grows a tad just as the sugar malts surge forward as it picks up a bit of sweet apple esters into the finish.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 7/08/2014. Pours slightly hazy reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of pumpkin, caramel, toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, pumpkin, and spice notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, pumpkin, toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light earthy spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pumpkin, caramel, toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and solid robustness of dark/bready malt, pumpkin, and spice flavors; with a great malt/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good pumpkin ale. Good complexity, balance, and solid robustness of dark/bready malt, pumpkin, and spice flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
