bottle from Bierkompass. Hazy pale golden colour, large white head leaving impressive lacework. Aroma of lemon and resine. Full-bodied, intensively malty, lots of citrsuy-resiny hops, slightly medicinal. A real hop bomb - delicious!

Light copper coloured body with a bit of an orange glow and a nice, three centimetre tall tan head - some very small bubbles rising from the bottom to boot. Aroma of nothing but pure hop cones. Strong resiny and grapefruit smells with a lot of potency and aroma. Some alcohol smells present, but the hops are amazing in the nose. Medium-bodied; Strong very strong hop notes with a lot of depth and range, from earthy and pungent to light, airy and herbal, with the obvious note of grapefruit and pine. Some dense malt and alcohol come through near the end, but the hops once again, dominate, as they should. Aftertaste is a bit refined for the style - there are a lot of hop bitterness at play, along with some subtle malt and alcohol - but a nice crisp finish that doesn’t overtly play to the richness of malt and strong alcohol content. Overall, a very well made Imperial IPA. I’m usually not a fan (preferring lighter IPAs), ESPECIALLY when sold in 65 cL bottles, but for many reasons - this beer makes me a fan. The alcohol is well hidden, and although it is strong, it shows strongest in hops, and not in malt, body or alcohol...even if all of those things are really in here. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Gainesville, Virginia on 23-October-2011 for US$5.99 sampled at home in Washington on 10-November-2011.

The Big Hunt, DC pint ($9): Pours an orange color with a white head and looks exactly the same as Green Flash single. Aroma is of a whole hell of a lot of grapefruit and piny hops. Taste is less bitter than the IPA (as that was beer that I had previously). Kind of more mellow and more well rounded than the not imperial. Flavour profile was pretty much the same though. Rather bitter, perhaps there were more hops, but they were counterbalanced by the increased maltiness. An excellent IPA, but not one of the best.

Pour is a dull gold with a large white head. Aroma is all pine floral hops. Flavor is the same. All hops out the wazoo. Can’t get much hoppier than this.

Bottle at a tasting. Thanks Shachar. Clear deep golden to amber color with a white head. Aroma of piney ans slightly citric hops. Flavor has a bit of maltiness but mostly piney bitter hops and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied.

On tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn NY on 24th July 2011. Orangey amber with a thin white head and almost full lacing. Cheesy yeasty aroma with a slightly "stuffy" sensation; rich and intense hoppiness in-mouth, thickly grapefruity and grassy at the same time. Very bitter and grassy finish and upper-mouth citrus remains. Zingy mouthfeel.

Bottle at the Rake. It pours hazy orange, with a foamy beige head and moderate carbonation. The nose is pine, dust, grass, caramel, citrus and alcohol. The taste is pine, grass, resin, smoke, orange marmalade, peach, sweet caramel, leather and alcohol warmth, with a bitter-dry finish. A decent IIPA, but I think I need to taste a really fresh bottle to do it justice.

Big, one pint bottle carried back home from Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo. Dense and rocky, near-white head, slowly fading over a hazed, amber-gold body. Hoppy aroma of semi-bitter oranges. Flavoure is a splendid blend of citrus fruits, pine needles and apricot sustained by a dosage of sweet malts. Solid bitter finish that lingers on and on for a long time. Flavoursome and very enjoyable on a Friday eve (Tromsø, 13.05.2011).

Deutlich hopfiger Antrunk, der deutlich grasige und süß blumige Aromen aufweist. Weich, erstaunlich wenig bitter. Weiterhin sehr blumig und intensiv hopfig. Herb, blumig, der amerikanische Hopfen ist hierbei deutlich erkennbar. Aromatisches Imperial IPA, dass sich vollkommen auf den Hopfen konzentriert und keinesfalls auf die Bitterkeit.
