Some may remember Daybreak, an imperial stout brewed with organic citrus zest. Originally brewed in 2011, at a time when we coined the phrase ICU (international citrus unit), this rebrewed version of our original collaborative adventure resulted from the creative friendship between two transatlantic travelers. Denmark and our Danish friends have long been a continual source of inspiration; thus we are honored to re-release Daybreak as a collaboration with our friend, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of Mikkeller.

Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, sweet licorice, sour coffee, dark malts, dark sugar, grass, caramel, dried dark fruits, soy sauce, alcohol, citrus. Taste is slightly sour-ish, dark malts, sour coffee, dried dark fruits, licorice, grass, caramel, citrus, dark sugar, alcohol. Medium bitterness, slightly dry and watery mouthfeel. Nice, and overall a little better now than it was before. Even though the mouthfeel has become a little watery, the notes of unripe banana and ashes that I didn’t like in the taste is now gone.

Bottle thanks to Jack at the RBWG 2014 grand tasting, thanks! Pours near black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has very dark grains, bitter chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of citrus. Flavor has smooth dark grains, with a bit of growing roast and a hint of citrus.

Bottle courtesy of Kermis and shared at Local Option, Chigaco. Poured a deep mahogany with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is rich alcohol liqourice. The flavour is strong bitter with a roasted malt liqourice coffee chocolate slightly watery palate. A super beer but needs more body.
