Bier van hoge gisting. Dit donkerbruin bier met rode tinten is volmondig en zacht in de afdronk. De karaktervolle fruitige smaak wordt omlijnd door een zachte en fijne bitterheid.

25 cl. bottle @ home. From a local Carrefour. No BBF. Finally got around to trying this one. The β€œabbey” beer produced by Alken-Maes. Priced cheaper than other beers aiming for the same market @ supermarket – possibly / likely aiming @ that market. The cheaper price is negligible probably keeping in mind that this is a 25 cl. Chestnut, mahogany cough syrup amber, quickly gone light beige head. Nose is caramel syrup, light alcohol, little smell, nuts, syrup & herbs. Taste is sweet caramel syrup, cough syrup, sweet herbs, candy sugar, chestnut, lots of syrup added, sweet metal, white sugar alcohol burns in the throat. Light, overly carbonated body. The added syrup or what feels like that covers the base which is appears to be similar to the blond which was dreadful. It is drinkable now but the alcohol still burns in the throat. More like a doppelbock than a dubbel. Oh dear,… What these macro’s make.

Nose is dark malt, Belgian yeast, dark toffee, brown sugars, nutty tones, mineral notes. Taste comprises dark toffee, brown sugars, light yeast, dates, prunes, raisens. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty average dubbel, little sign of the 7% ABV!

Pours brown like a cola with nice sticky head. Sweetness is the first taste to come, with a little lingering bitterness in the finish. Aroma would lead you to believe beer is more acidic than it is, with wine like smell. Very smooth and tasty.

Bottle. Pours clear reddish brown with a tall tan head that dissipates fast and almost collapses in the center. Aroma is malty with a touch of BBQ and fruit. Flavor is sweet roasted malt, toffee, with fruit and spice overtones. Lightly bitter finish.

Bottle from Cafe de la Gare, The Hague. Pours clear amber brown with a medium off white head. Aroma of toffee, a little dark fruit and malt. Flavour is dominated by sweet malt, sugar, caramel and some spice. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not bad but overly sweet for the style.
