After secondary fermentation in the bottle in the purest tradition of Floreffe’s abbey beers, it has a very deep, almost black colour with a brown head

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought online @ Mitra. Dark brown with a beige head. Sweet malty aroma with hops. Semi biter taste with some roasted malts adding some chocolate hints. Long bitter aftertaste. Lively carbonation. Yet another good beer.

From a 750ml bottle on 22/2/2013. Pours a very dark amber with a biggish head. Has a sweet, slightly fruity aroma, with some christmas cake notes. The flavour is also sweet, fruity, cakey and spicy, with a very gentle bitterness at the back. The carbonation is modest and the body medium. Nice enough but far from special, and quite subdued in character considering it’s 8%.

Smells sweet, strawberry and berries. Smells boozy as well. Pours without much head - typical of style. Dark brown. Taste is sweet, pretty low carbonation. Boozy bitter. Taste along the lines of the Abbaye des Rocs without being quite in the same ballpark. Some honey here as well. Bottle from Only Cafe.

Poured into Chimay chalice. Creamy head covers black beer (brown really, but you can’t see through it). Smell of coffee and chocolate. Taste: licorice/anise, chocolate, burnt toast. Has a bite to it...sweet and then mildly tart/sour.
