After secondary fermentation in the bottle in the purest tradition of Floreffe’s abbey beers, it has a very deep, almost black colour with a brown head

33 cl. bottle @ De Groote Witte Arend: (A) dark brown with a red hue & tanned head – (S) smell is pure liquorish (oddly in an agreeable and quite nice way) with a touch of spices, they overdid a bit on the yeast in the beer because I am picking up some slight airplane model glue on the nose on this one, tad excess of yeast, dark fruits – (T) lots of bitter anise and liquorish (once again, things I am not a big fan of but I like what they are doing here), rest is a bit drowned out, lots of candy & brown sugar gooeyness in here as well, Belgian yeast & malts, dark fruits & lots of spices in the finish, syrup – (B) tad thick syrup, almost molasses, almost inkling to sticky but not really heavy, maybe not directly my thing but interesting and well made, this is a good beer

330 ml bottle, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Very dark brown colour, huge beige head. Strong spicy aroma, particularly strong notes of anise, also notes of caramel malts and brown kandij sugar. The flavour has notes of brown kandij sugar, brown malts and spices, dominant anise again. Not too sweet. Minimal hops.

Dark reddish brown colour, small but firm tan head. Aroma of raisins, caramel, herbs, spices. Noticeably vanilla, anise, liquorice and nutmeg. Flavour is rather balanced. Malts and some hops, nice yeasty tones and a complex spiciness to complete it. Better than expected.

Brown color, little bit creamy head. Not much smell. Not a really nice taste, little above average body. Not great.

Bottle. Very dark brown color with a huge frothy beige head. Aroma of plums, prunes, some raisins, yeast, malt, caramel, brown sugar, light chocolate hints and some alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with dark fruits (also a bit of peach), some slightly toasted dark bread, a licorice touch, hot alcohol and light spiciness. Medium-full-bodied with rather strong carbonation. A decent and interesting ale, but too much alcohol flavor for me. Later note: Improves when it warms up - the carbonation settles a bit, the alcohol blends better with the other flavors and the mouthfeel feels smoother.
