GOOD MORNING. YOU’VE WOKEN UP DEAD. YOU’RE IN RUINS. On the brink of catastrophe. But don’t be discouraged. You are ripe for a revolution! Just like the Bolsheviks of the early 1900’s, our barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout doesn’t happen overnight. Patience is required. Wake Up Dead hibernates in our cellars for over 12 months before being blended to woody perfection. Hints of raisins, cherry, licorice and toffee, followed by earthy, herbal hop notes that rise up, joining in your fight for a better life. Don’t be afraid of the dark. All power to the stouts!

On draft at rustico. Pours black with a tan head. Cherry herbal nose. Thick and luscious mouthfeel. Dark cherries, raisins and toffee. Nice.

On tap @ Bierproeflokaal In De Wildeman, Amsterdam. As good as pitch black with a big nice dense tan top. Lovely roasted chocolate on the top, coffee with vanilla, and wood-sweetness. Tons of licorice in the flavor! Almost like I've never tasted before. Light roasted and dry-woody also. Soft to average prickling with a thick oily mouthfeel. Really tasty. A warming feeling glides towards the finish. Yups, this is tasty stuff! 27.09.2012

Opaque black beer. Short lived frothy chocolate head. Surprisingly light palate. Light lactose sweet malt with milk chocolate and a little wood. Finishes light with just a little dark malt. No bitterness or dryness here! A little coffee in the finish. A crisp and easy going Impy. Fancy there is a trace of red wine as the beer warms up.

2009 bottle shared at the 17th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 1/28/12. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, chocolate and wood. The taste is chocolate, cherries, roasted malts, wood, whisky and a bitter hop finish. Medium-full bodied, low carbonation. This aged well. Nice beer.

2009 bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a large head. Excellent head retention and lacing. Aroma is strong on oak and whisky along with vanilla, roasted malts, stone fruits, butterscotch. Taste is roasted malts, bitter hop notes, tobacco, vanilla, oak, whisky, plum and other fruit notes. Smooth, full bodied. Good beer.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Dried pit fruit and licorice aromas. Sweet oak, raisin and caramel upfront turning anise in the lasting dry finish.

On tap at Brouwer's for Big Wood, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of oak, vanilla and dark fruits. Flavour of plums, oak, vanilla, sweet candied sugars and roasted malt, finishing sweet and oaky. Very enjoyable.

Palate is slightly thin, though the body is well-rounded. I'd like to see less of the sourness prevailing in the finish. Despite that, this is great.

(Bottle, 2009 vintage) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby when seen through light. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted, fruity nose with chocolate, dried fruit, roasted malt, raisins, toffee and chocolate fudge. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, dark bread, dried fruit, raisins, toffee, liquorice, caramel and a toasty cocoa bitterness in the finish. Some warming brandy coming through at the end. The wood character is quite gentle and comes through more like brandy (raisins, dried fruit) than oak. Full body, fairly sweet. Lovely beer.

Draught at Bishops arms.Pitch black colour with no head.Aroma of english licorice,raisin and a but of whiskey,smooth warming mouthfeels and good full body.
