Bomber bottled on 3/29/11, so I guess a new batch - no infection as others have noted in older bottles, thankfully - pours fairly light for and IS, with a slight, sudsy lace - nose of cocoa, toffee, char, wood, whiskey - fairly creamy mouthfeel, but lacks the body you want from an oak-aged IS - the relative thinness makes the alcohol a bit too strong - flavors of charred wood, light smoke, cherry, chocolate - black malt bitterness is a bit heavy and astringent on the tail end and the alcohol burn compounds this - doesn’t taste like any barrel aging was involved, so perhaps this batch was not - a few decent thing happening, but way too rough around the edges.

Light penetrates this black ale a little too easily for my taste - slightly alcoholic aroma, with bourbon, vanilla and cocoa - gentle carbonation, background hops, sticky, almost syrupy as well, though - some alcohol, oak, maple syrup - not nearly as good as I was hoping.

Bottle. Pours brownish black. Tan head. Nose of cocoa powder, vanilla, soapy dishwater and espresso. Taste is well not good. Initial mouth feel of chalk, ash and odd spices, followed by cocoa powder, star anise and wood chips. Barely drinkable.

Pours dark reddish brown with light tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, raisins, licorice and maybe some vanilla. Similar flavors with just a hint of wood. Doesn’t taste like this one spent much time in a barrel. I’m not really enjoying this beer a whole lot. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation. Meh.

Bottle shared by Ari I believe, thanks! Poured dark brown with a gray that started at the edges and dissipated completely. Aroma had dark grains, coffee and a little bit of oak. Flavor had a slight metallic note joined by dark grains and coffee. A bit thin on the tongue.

2008 vintage sampled from the tap at the 2010 Indiana WInterfest. Poured dark brown with a brown head. Aroma had a nice oak note with coffee and dark malts. Flavor was similar to the aroma with a coffee start and an oak finish.
