Mostly black pour with garnet highlights. Almost no aroma, no stout, no bourbon, not much of anything. Thin, especially for an Imperial Stout.
Earlier Rating: 6/7/2008 Total Score: 3.9
Mahogany pour that throws up an off-white head. Smooth coffee aroma. Smooth flavor that follows the aroma. Lightly sweet, roasty.

tap - Wow, the variation in ratings here is startling. The brew I had certainly wasn’t an awful mess. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is dark roast malt and some chocolate. The flavor is heavy with the dark roast malt and has the usual chocolate and coffee notes though they’re not assertive. Admittedly the way it all fits together is pretty simple and struck me as a little lacking for what is so often a showcase style for many brewers. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but there are many better imperial stouts.

Bomber from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours very dark brown with a slight beige/tan head. Aroma is a bit alcohol, a bit vanilla, and maybe a bit bourbon. Med body. Flavor is rather fruity in a dark way and there’s a strong coffee aspect. The smoothness of a BA stout is not quite as strong as many, but that liquid sweetness is present, and it’s quite offset by bitter and burnt malt. Wish I could imagine cherry! I think I can imagine oak though. Looks like I got a good bottle.

(Bottle, 0.65 litres - 2009 vintage, from Systembolaget) Aroma contained vanilla as could be expected. I smelled also creamy coffee and liquorice. All the flavours formed like stripe on the centre of my tongue and I could feel carbonation on the sides. Vanilla flavour was quite low on the taste. Roastedness and light ashiness were stronger. Low bitterness and mild sourness were mainly present in the aftertaste. Nice to drink a barrel aged beer where the barrel wasn’t too dominating.

(bottle) very dark reddish brown, small tan head; aromas of caramel, molasses, soy sauce, burnt rubber, alcohol; flavour starts with light sweet and transitions into medium length medium bitter finish, not very complex

Bottled (BB 12/2011)
Dark brown color, small brown head. Toasted, malty aroma, very doppelbock-like, not like an imperial stout. Also flavor starts with malty, woody hoppy flavors. Not much oakyness. Dark, black malts, roasty flavors dominate.Aftertaste has licorice too.

Bottled (thanks omhper). Very deep rubyish amber colour, small brown head. Aroma is quite big on the malts, liquorice, alcohol and some wooden notes. Flavour is plum, ashes, roasted malts, alcohol, wood and some vanilla. Actually a very nice left hand brew!

2009 bottle. Pours black with a small beige head. Some coffe and dark choclate and an exessive amount of wooden taste. I realy don’t see that this beer can deserve an average of 3,9

Bottle. Not a bad beer, just boring. The oak aging of this beer has not made it better. Taste and aroma has a lame oaked character and the "rest of the beer" is just an average imperial stout. The woodiness feels artifical.
