Gageleer Original is a golden colored beer that forms a perfectly beautiful white foam collar in a gageleer glass. It is brewed with honest organic ingredients: the finest barley malt, partly from local Campine organic farmers, and bog myrtle from De Liereman (a nature preserve in the Campine village of Oud‐Turnhout), without additives or preservatives.

7th Feb 2015: Brugge Beer Festival. Golden pour from the tap, white topping (just about). Bog Myrtle? Spicy, floral and herbal nose with a mild yeastiness in the background. Taste is maltier than the aroma hints at, finish is more bitter: decent and different.

Helder geel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig bitter en licht zoet met sporen van anijs en een kenmerkende kruidige aparte smaak van waarschijnlijk gagel. Al met al een goed bier.

Commissioned beer spiced with bog myrtle, which was commonly used ages ago. Has received a loyal following throughout the years especially among metalheads, I have no idea why. Snow white head, misty golden blonde, yellowish colour. Very sweetish spicy aroma from the bog myrtle, accents of banana, caramel, cinnamon; fruity taste with powerful spiciness coming up quickly, sweetish, almost medicinal, herbal hops in the end. A beer that separates itself from most others and that in itself is at least interesting.

33 cl. bottle split with Kogymo. Procured @ Willems. Clear apple golden with basically no head. Nose is intensly herbal, herbal garden, lots of what I assume is Bog Myrthel, very typical. Carbonation is totally out of control, this beer just explodes in your mouth once you take a sip, weird and not beneficial in any way. Taste is same odd bitter herbal, plant-like nature with aspirin & lousy BE slightly boozy apple juice & sweetener taste, medicinal almost in its herbal nature. Okay, somewhat interesting but the base & the overall taste are not really my thing.

If funky beer is your thing, you may find this an interesting change of pace. Murky golden/orange with a lot of carbonation. The Bog Myrtle gives this a bitter herbal taste, and the finish is more bitter (kind of nasty).

Slightly hazy golden with white head. Massive herbal spices, I guess this is the gagel. Nice medium sweet malts, lots of berries, some citrus and light herbal bitter finish. Interesting stuff.

Flaska från beernavigator.com. Disig, gyllengul högt vitt skum. Örtig doft med tydliga porskaraktär, lite blommigt tvålig och korianderfrön. Frisk med tydlig porssmak och om man inte gillar det gillar man inte den här drycken för smakbilden är ganska endimensionell. Lite oljig, lätt men tydlig beska. Trevlig i vårsolen. Gott

Bottle to tulip. Lavender, spice and camomile. Hazy orange with full white head. Sweet lemongrass and wheatfield after a threshing. Moderate bitterness and spice. Semi-dry finish.

I do appreciate a spicey beer, even with obscure spices and herbs. But this one just didn’t work for me. It had a nasty tardy taste. Blech.
