Nutty and lush. Robust in flavour. Complex! Yes, this was a trial and a big win.
Inspired by the flavours of the iconic Porter the traditional Brown Ale. We ended up creating a beer with more complexity and slightly higher alcohol level, but still with the easy drinking style than a Brown Ale. Maybe we just created a category by itself?
Grains: Munich Malt, Vienna, Pilsner and some speciality dark Malts
Hops: Lubling

Draught @ BBB. Pours reddish dark brown with a frothy beige head that leaves a small sticky trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with roasted malts, dark bread, burnt caramel, coffee, raisins, dried pine needles, hay and minerals. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter, malty, slightly herbal and slightly earthy. Mouthfeel is round, roasted astringent, very tiny boozy and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with roasted malts, burnt caramel, dark bread, coffee, raisins, dried pine needles, lemon balm, moist soil and minerals. Bit harsh and heavy on the hops at this point in time. Might mellow out in a few months. --- Beer merged from original tick of Big Brown on 19 Dec 2015 at 18:37 - Score: 6. Original review text: Sample. Bit harsh but has a solid malt base and I suspect it might mellow out in a few months time.
