Burnside Sweet Heat is a wheat ale with an addition of 200 pounds of Apricot puree, then dry hopped with imported Jamaican Scotch Bonnet peppers. Reminiscent of a Caribbean chutney, Sweet Heat has a subtle tartness from the fruit with a slight spiciness from the peppers which also adds a fruitiness to the aroma.

On tap at Burnside, pours a hazy pale blonde with a tiny head. Aroma brings out modest apricots and light peppers. Flavour begins with light apricots, followed by pure spices. Not overly pleasing. More like a fun experiment. It's okay.

Apricot/habanero ale. Cloudy yellow. Aroma hints at both but no big statement made. Taste is vegetal, with a touch of heat, but just a touch.

Cool beer. On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear yellow color with a medium white head. A light nose of biscuit and lemon hops. The flavor is similar with fruity hops, then a big noticeable pepper burn in the throat, not a ton of pepper flavor but a lot of heat. Good beer.

Hazy yellow with a small white head and some lacing. Aroma of wheat and citrus. Flavors of wheat, sweet malts, then warm green peppers in the back of the throat
Nice, just the right amount of heat. Tasty.

Bottle - Smells just like my favorite Jamaican hot sauce, sweet and heat is right. Cloudy yellow with a thin white head. The beer is surprisingly intact, may others try to to a beer with so much heat it ruins it, but the wheat wine is actually left almost in tact to start. The heat and fruit quickly take over and you are left with the typical hot sauce after burn. One of the better tasting chili beers, but still to much to be an actual pleasant beer.

Bomber. Very cloudy yellow, cloudy pastel, lace. Lots of chili pepper in the nose, apricots, orange, wheaty. Very spicy peppery flavor, apricot, bread. Completely dominated by the Scotch Bonnet peppers. Not for me, but well done if you like this kind of thing.

Draft at the source. Hazy yellow. Aroma of lightly spoced straw. More heat than sweet, iβm glad I took my little purple pill before this one. Ouch.

Bomber from Malt and Vine. Pours hazy gold with a slight white head. Aroma is apricot with underlying spice. Med minus body. Flavor starts rather chili, and then the apricot comes out. Really quite nice. Makes me wonder what would have happened if chilies had been available to the northern european brewers several centuries ago. This is very nicely done.

Draft at Burnside Brewing in Portland, OR on 29 May 2013. Poured a very cloudy yellow ochre colour with the thinnest halo of white head. Aroma of apricots, yeast and some bready malt. Initial flavours of sweet tinned fruit, wheat and light pepper. Chilli rapidly becomes more assertive with some slightly salty notes and dry grains. Nice idea, but it didnβt really work for me. Not sure Iβd want any more than 4oz.
