bottle@Kulminator: dark mahogany, big beige Alvinne head, sickly sweet, medicinal, liquorice, toffee, churned caramel malts, rotting leaves, fermenting dark fruits, all kinds of revolting spices, old cellars, tastes like it went bad during the brewing process, bit of an abortion, not sure why they released this, still doesn’t taste infected or at least not badly

Bottle @ home. Brown colored beer, average head. For a beer brewed with so many spices it’s not bad. I don’t taste too much spices, which is probably why it gets an average rating.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Candy-sweet caramely malty aroma with notes of anise and cinnamon. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a calm carbonation. Quite dense toast-malty body with caramel, liquorice and ginger spice towards the sweet and slightly sticky malty finish with hints of raisins. Nice one but I am not really a fan of this. 21.VI.11

Imported from my RateBeer account as Alvinne Balthazar (by Brouwerij Alvinne):
Aroma: 6/10, Appearance: 3/5, Taste: 4/10, Palate: 3/5, Overall: 7/20, MyTotalScore: 2.3/5

Note: a combined rating of two separate tastings. Since my first rating wasn't too good, I decided to buy another bottle and rerate it. After the badly infected Congébier 2012, I needed a beer I knew that was good. It was even worse... :(

Ar: 6, ap: 5, T: 6, P: 3, O: 10, Total: 3

Note:As Alvinne usually puts 5 years for this type of beer, it will have been almost 5 years old. This probably explains the bad rating, because I remember this being better, two years ago. Too bad they don't make it anymore.

Bit cloudy red brown to purple coloured beer, lots of small chunks floating around, beige creamy head, adhesive and stable. Aroma: a bit "old", wood, cherries, orange peel, vanilla, caramel, malts. MF: light carbon, light to medium body, bit watery. Taste: pretty sour touch, fruity, some cherries. Aftertaste: more sour cherries, citrus notes, a little hoppy.

Pretty cloudy brown beer, small beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: chocolate, dried fruits, sweet malts, caramel, some citrus, rotten fruits. MF: low carbon, medium body. Taste: very sour start, rotten fruits, bitter unpleasant touch, bit earthy. Aftertaste: sour and medicinal bitterness. Drain pour. (Well, I used it to catch fruit flies, by filling up a small glass almost to the rim, covering it with cling foil and perforating it with little holes.)

Served from tap at Brasserie Erasmus. Almost jet black in body appearance. Off-white layer. Complex aroma of spiced malts, highlighting a touch of liquorice and ginger. Dark malts, dark liquorice, coriander, and deep, dark fruits can be spotted in a well blended taste profile. Lingering spicy dry ending. Well bodied. Pleasant (shared with Finn, Brugge 04.05.2011).

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at the 16th Kerstbierfestival) The beer poured dark brown and cloudy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had spiced, cloves and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, spices, clove, hops, mild roastedness, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy, bitter and malty. A too spicy brew for my taste.

Bottled at Pressklubben, Stockholm. Cloudy mahogany colour, rich firm head. Spicy nose whre I get cardamom and nutmeg. Above medium bodied with slight lactic tartness and lively rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and spices, slight orange. Salty, mildly warming finish. A pleasant, flavourful ale.
