’Fad bamse’ is a highly hopped and dry hopped imperial pilsner with a light body and lovely crispyness from the lager yeast.
A Danish pilsner is typically characterized by an alcohol content of 4,6% vol., piss-yellow colour and a sexless, slightly bitter taste. But it doesn’t have to be like this…! Draft Bear is Mikkellers interpretation of a ’pilsner’, heavyweight-style. With its powerful hop notes, high alcohol content and lovely golden appearance, the only reference to the pilsner style is the clean taste of the lager yeast.

Aroma: Citrus, sweet malts
Taste: Citrus, grapefruit, candy and malts
Very nice, as all of the Mekkeller beers I’ve tasted are.

Bottle: Pours a dull straw color with a large, frothy off-white head. Lots of sticky lacing. Not much of a nose, some light malty sweetness and a little citrus. Not what one expects when it reads ’malt liquor’ on the label. Tastes more like the high gravity lager I expected. Lightly malty sweet with minimal hops. Faint yeast presence. Sort of a syrupy feel. Alcohol burn is distracting. Not what I’d hoped for, but sort of what I’d expected. Looks like I’m against the grain on my final rating, but imho this is what I came up with after spending two hours of my Saturday sipping and contemplating. That makes me sad.

On tap at Beer Temple. Hazy golden orange colour, white head. Aroma of some sweet bready malts and flowery hops, really nice. Flavour is light sweet, malty, bready, with a good deal of hoppy bitterness, ending in a short bitter finish that fades quickly. Bitterness stays just a bit longer. Medium bodied, watery finish unfortunately. Nice beer though.

Cloudy yellow/orange with a tiny white head that settles quickly to nothing and leaves scant lacing. Aroma of flowers, grass and fresh bread dough. Classic Mikkeller hops at the start and finish. In between is lots of malt and yeast. Very straightforward. Thick and chewy, great body. This does not resemble a pilsener. Very nice, better on draught than in the bottle - smoother with less apparent alcohol.

Bottle 75 cl. Amber with some Yellow, hazy with a big light yellow head. Aroma; Very nice hoppy, fruity, juicy. Flavor; Hoppy, again nice hoppy and some yeast, the alc is well hidden. Good!

Re-rate 11/7/12: Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks Dagan. Clear amber. Aroma of fruity hops, pretty citric and floral and slightly piney, with some caramelly malt. Sweetish malty flavor wigth caramel, a hint of butter, a bit of biscuits and a bitter hoppy finish with a bit of grapefruit. Medium-bodied. Nice , but nothing Pilsener-like. 7/3/7/3/14=3.4

750 ml bottle@Cardinal. Dim orange body with a big, foamy off-white head. Strong hoppy aroma, grapefruit, orange, caramel and grass. Flavor is fruity, refreshing, orange, malt, spices and relatively bitter. Nice body, feels heavy at the same time as it’s easy drinkable. Amazing good balance and no sign of the big alcohol. Dangerous!

Bottle. Pours with a clear golden body and a rocky bone colored head. Aroma is hoppy with fruity notes caramel and table sugar. Taste is lightly bitter, floral and fruity. Medium to light carbonation. Good beer.

A slightly cloudy, orange-yellow beer with a big and lasting, cream-yellow head. Aroma is stunning, tropical sweet fruits, grapefruits, mango and some bitterness.Taste is also great, fruits, some pine needles and sweetness that turns into more dry and high bitterness. Easy and nice to drink, but still slippery. Absolutely, the great beer (if all lager would be like this...), that reminds me to Anchor Liberty Ale for every aspect, so this beer can’t be a far away from the truth.
