’Fad bamse’ is a highly hopped and dry hopped imperial pilsner with a light body and lovely crispyness from the lager yeast.
A Danish pilsner is typically characterized by an alcohol content of 4,6% vol., piss-yellow colour and a sexless, slightly bitter taste. But it doesn’t have to be like this…! Draft Bear is Mikkellers interpretation of a ’pilsner’, heavyweight-style. With its powerful hop notes, high alcohol content and lovely golden appearance, the only reference to the pilsner style is the clean taste of the lager yeast.

10/10/9/9/8/9

0.75l bottle shared with the one and only ClubGonzo @ Hennrik, Bergen. This is a yellow semi clear "bear" with a nice and big fluffy head. Quite hopy nose to be a "draft bear" with a distinct citrusy nose, malts and a hint of caramel and pepper. Crisp and nice medium body with a good amount of citrus in the body. Tastes hopy, proper made, yellow and gooood.

Cloudy orange - amber beer with a small white head. Soft semi dry palate. Rich hops but not too bitter at all. The hops are the usual flavours but also with a touch of lemon cream. A little aniseed in the finish. Good!

Bottle shared at the Euston Tap - thanks Yan. Pours cloudy gold with a big, pure white head. Floral hops and bread in the aroma, with some caramel as well. Quite sweet flavor, resiny, with bread and earth. Really, very hoppy with citrus and pine. Medium in body with heavy, effervescent carbonation. Hoppy, light alcohol finish with some honey and caramel malts. Plenty of bitterness. Honestly, I would not guess this is a lager. Only in the last stages of the finish could I detect that distinctive lager character. (And I do very much enjoy lagers.) Very good beer.

Bouteille 750ml.

Bottle, pours dark amber with a large off-white head. Aroma of caramel, hops, pine, and sweetness. Flavour of sweet caramel with a well-balanced hop bitterness - also some dark fruits.

Location: Draft at Swift Hibernian Lounge As Imperial Pils, 4/24/10
Aroma: The nose has some fresh hop notes, flowers, citrus, and a bit of caramel
Appearance: This beer pours a hazy orange color into the glass
Flavor: The taste is semi-sweet up-front, and a balanced by a good bitterness
Palate: The finish on this one is pretty long, and it booze are very well-hidden for a beer of this gravity
Overall Impression: I thought this beer was a actually really nice. Another Mikkeller that just seemed to work from my point of view. They make some nice stuff.

This beer was not up to the usual standard of Mikkeller, in my opinion. It has a pretty good flavor, but it’s a bit like an average West coast DIPA. It just doesn’t come together entirely. It certainly has some pilsner taste, but it’s much bigger with the grapefruit-orange hops than anything else. The beer does look great. I’ll give it that. Huge rocky head that sticks around like nobody’s business. It’s ultimately just too sweet and orangey to stick with for long. It’s like eating an under-ripe grapefruit after a little while. This beer might be a lot better when it’s at its freshest, but it’s certainly not local, so it’s hard to correct for that possibility. Okay beer, but I’ll stick with the Samuel Adams Hallertau Imp Pils.
