A hoppy ruby red ale at heart, this uplifting beer raises a classic British style to new heights. Citrus and floral notes from the aromatic New World hops perform a spectacular balancing act against the rich and robust smooth caramel and bready sweetness thanks to the traditional English malts, before a long moreish crisp citrus finish leaves you gasping for more.

Bottle from the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - amber with some red hue going on. Big fluffy head. Nose - initially too cold so only getting hops - grapefruit. Then as it warms some smoke followed by some burnt toffee comes to the fore. Taste - citrus sweets and as it warms the toffee comes through. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - decent to good amber.

From a 330ml bottle on 21/6/2014. Pours a cloudy dark amber with a huge uneven foamy head. The aroma features some caramel, bread and dark fruit, with some metallic and basement notes. These elements repeat when you take a sip, with a sharp fruitiness most prominent, along with a tart, slightly harsh bitterness closing things out. Has a medium body and is slightly over-carbed. This one just doesnโ€™t really work for me - it lacks balance, and the flavours just donโ€™t seem properly integrated. Disappointing given that other beers from this brewer have tended to be good to excellent.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a hazy dark brown with a frothy tan head. The aroma is citrus and yeast with some zesty sherbet. The flavour is moderate sour light bitter with a big earthy malt leather palate. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Somewhat "different" but very refreshing.
