SNAB finds the inspiration for Maelstrøm in the Barley Wines of the American west coast. Brewed on the occasion of 10 years of SNAB and now a classic. Malty and alcohol warming while Oregon yeast and hops from the Yakima Valley in Washington provide a lively citrus-fruity character, further emphasized by the use of dry hopping. Discover and enjoy the strong, intensely rich stirring and complex pallet of Maelstrøm: "The Big Sipper" among the SNAB beers.

Bottle, BB 21.04.2017. Pours dark amber with beige head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, candy, caramel, malt. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fruits, caramel, malt, candy, bit sticky. Finish is sweet and somewhat dry bitter. Sweetness covers the alcohol well. Drinkability is good, if you don’t mind the sweetness and heavy body. Overall: very nice brew.

Süß herber Malzantrunk. Weich, vollmundig, konstante Würzigkeit mit erfreulich geringer Süße. Schokoladig im Mittelteil und Nachgeschmack, minimal alkoholisch. Gut! 8/11/12/12/9/12

Dutch barley wine brewed in Belgium, tasted at Arendsnest. Thick, sticky, creamy, yellowish white head, hazy amber colour with copperish hue. Aroma of vanilla, almond, cognac, candi sugar, strawberry, treacle-waffle, wood, lime, red apple, orange. Sweetish taste with slight sourish accent, banana, candied orange, brown sugar but all in a concentrated, refined way, caramelly and honeyish malt sweetness in a vinous texture, smooth, with dry, woody, candied sweet and liqueurish finish, dried by peppery hops and whisky-like, warming but not too obnoxious alcohol. Warming, vinous, rich: this is how any good English-style barley wine ought to be.

Bottle. Dark Amber with nice thick off white head and some big bubbles. Lots of aromatic hops, with pine, glue, marmalade, some grapefruit. Quite bitter with some thick syrupy sweetness underneath. Brown bread, toffee, wet cardboard. Finish is a strong bitter with a very weird touch that's hard to describe, but it's almost like unripe eggplant. Full bodied with full carbonation. Interesting stuff.
