SNAB finds the inspiration for Maelstrøm in the Barley Wines of the American west coast. Brewed on the occasion of 10 years of SNAB and now a classic. Malty and alcohol warming while Oregon yeast and hops from the Yakima Valley in Washington provide a lively citrus-fruity character, further emphasized by the use of dry hopping. Discover and enjoy the strong, intensely rich stirring and complex pallet of Maelstrøm: "The Big Sipper" among the SNAB beers.

Bottle. Dark Amber with nice thick off white head and some big bubbles. Lots of aromatic hops, with pine, glue, marmalade, some grapefruit. Quite bitter with some thick syrupy sweetness underneath. Brown bread, toffee, wet cardboard. Finish is a strong bitter with a very weird touch that's hard to describe, but it's almost like unripe eggplant. Full bodied with full carbonation. Interesting stuff.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought online @ Biernavigatie.nl. Dark copper with an off-white head. caramel aroma with some floral hops. Taste is sweet and hoppy with a long bitter finish. Well concealed alcohol, making this one tasty but dangerous beer.

Bottle from Bacchinalia, Cambridge. Copper brown, cloudy. Not a lot of head/lacing. Heavy malt aroma, caramel, bit of herb and pine resin. Initial taste is a glorious sweetness, fading too quickly to a pungent acidic bitter finish. Thick mouthfeel. Mostly good, I’m not crazy about the finish but all around a good beer.

Sweet malts in the aroma. Very smooth, rich and warming. Low carbonation. Sweet malts and some caramelized tinned peaches. Interesting dry hit of hop in the finish.

Hazy deep amber brown colour with a red hue, one finger creamy beige head, recedes slowly , thick layer remains, good lacing. Aroma sweet malty, toffee, dark dried fruits, alcohol, cinnamon, citrus. Taste malty sweet, slightly bitter, a bit vinous, alcohol. Full-bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, lingering dry bitter finish, woody and earthy notes, very special beer.
