In addition to the rich toasted and chocolate notes in this Imperial Porter, our barrel-aged version has vanilla oak notes and subtle whiskey warmth.

Bottle from Utobeer. Really strange as I knew I bought it and then I couldnโ€™t find it and then eventually found it under one of my box files. Black body. thickish dark tan head. Aroma of vanilla and oak. Some choc. But too be honest the barrel ageing is rather too over the top. The base beer is almost completely subjugated to the barrel ageing. I was really looking forward to this, but it has let me down quite a lot to be honest. Body is a bit thin. Some dark fruit and whisky tangerine on the finish which is good, but the aroma and mouthfeel and overall flavour is outweighed by the barrel ageing. Disappointing.

Bottled@ChrisO. Rubyish red colour, small brown head. Aroma is very beautiful oak, vanilla, plum, sweet malts, liquorice and mild roasted notes. Flavour is even more oaked, slightly plummy and mildly syrupy. Balanced and lovely.

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Black colour, light off white head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, caramel, very sweet and a bit boozy. Flavour is sweet, vanilla, bourbon, coffee, alcohol, bit of liquorice. Very alcoholic. Medium bodied. Lacked the aggressive flavours of the regular Gonzo imo.

Bottle. Black beer with a strong head. The aroma is deeply bitter and coffee, and the flavour is very bitter, smoked and roasted. Overall a good beer.

Bottled at Sorbon, Bromma, Stockholm. Opaque black, rich beige head. Fruity nose with vanilla/oak and coffee/licorice. Sweet and full bodied with syrup and coffee as ell as bourbon and molasses. Sugar and bourbon grows to dominate. On the surface it acts just as the top examples of the highly praised concept of bourbon barrel aging dark ales. A closer inspection reveals a stickyness and fruitiness, and it lacks elegance. It is tasty, but still feels like a poor photo copy of a masterpiece.

Bottled (BB 12/2010). My rating #5500. Opaque black color, small espresso head, some lace too. Strong oak and vanilla from whiskey barrels, also some dark chocolate. Medium to full bodied. Whiskey is evident here, bourbon and vanilla fudge dominate otherwise roasted flavors. Also oak and black coffee. A bit alcoholic, but barrel-ageding has been succeeded quite well, flavors are in the balance. I suppose this is the best you can get from normal Gonzo Porter.

Black with a firm light brown head. The aroma is vineous with plenty roasted malt, and strong vanilla and bourbon-like oak. Dry and roasted flavour with tannin in the finish.

Bottle. Almost black and opague. Roast, ash, coffee, oak, tobacco and dark chocolate in the aroma. Malty sweet, creamy flavor with ash, laurel, dark chocolate and blackcurrant. Laurel, ash, berries and oak in the aftertaste. Delicious and satisfyingly balanced brew.
