In addition to the rich toasted and chocolate notes in this Imperial Porter, our barrel-aged version has vanilla oak notes and subtle whiskey warmth.

Draft (2014 release) at Flying Dog Brewery poured into a goblet. Pours a brownish black with about half a finger of tan head. Aromas of whiskey, caramel, vanilla, dark fruit. Tasting notes of coconut, vanilla, dark chocolate, subtle hops. Medium-full body with a sticky and semi-dry finish. Very nice barrel character on this.

750 mL champagne bottle, corked and caged, courtesy of daknole which I would presume is a 2010 vintage. Cork broke upon opening. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a tiny brown head that quickly dissipates. Light soy sauce, a bit boozy whiskey, chocolate, anise aroma. Kind of thin body. Cola, plum, soy, dark chocolate, very woody, a touch fruity, whiskey flavor. This one’s time has passed. Hope to re-rate with a slightly less old bottle sometime in the future.

355 ml bottle. Pours black and oily. Real brown head. Resin and berry fruits on the nose. Licorice, dark chocolate, toffee, berries with a pleasant bitterness. Tastes not so alcoholic than the listed 9,5%. A little bit sticky to the end. Great!

Received in trade from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a solid black with a good sized long lasting khaki head. Smells of chocolate and caramel with bits of dark pitted fruit, vanilla, oak, and bits of wood and bourbon. Smooth sweet chocolate with bits of dark fruit drizzled with vanilla and bourbon. The finish leaves a bit of bitter chocolate and roast with smokey ash on the palette that lingers long after each sip. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet creamy and syrupy mouthfeel. Wow I really liked this one!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a deep brown color head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of whiskey notes are dominant with light vanilla and some nice black chocolates are also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by strong whiskey notes with some wood notes with nice creamy black chocolate notes and some light vanilla. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Solid beer with quite dominant barrel-aged characteristics.
