A beer that has a dominant malty taste. This beer’s origins in a monk’s recipe are reflected in its heartiness. The Pope of Beers, Conrad Seidl, describes it as: “Almost black with a very slight red tone, a sensational, festive foam and truly extraordinary fragrance that at first summons up visions of greaves lard. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. There is very little of the sweetness that is frequently to be tasted with doppelbock beer.” The Ayinger Celebrator has been ranked among the best beers of the world by the Chicago Testing Institute several times and has won numerous medals.

On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with minimal cream head. The aroma is mainly dark malts with traces of cocoa and liquorice. In the mouth it starts off quite sweet with a little underlying sharpness and a thick creamy texture, but soon some bitterness comes through and gradually takes over. Flavours begin with roasted malts, potato cakes and coffee but soon cough mixture and spices take over. Hints of oranges, molasses and alcoholic strength later as well. Finih is malty and somewhat boozy. This is rather nice.

Winter Bock 2025.
Pours dark red-brown in color with a nice, creamy beige head. Excellent retention. Very rich aroma of dark malt, roasted notes, coffee. Taste also rich maltiness, caramel, dried fruit and a bit of roasty coffee. Light alcohol warmth.

500ml as a: Winter Bock. Bottle from Germany (Bade-Baden).

330ml Celebrator from beers of Europe. Tried on: 08.04.2013. Znakomite, jedno z najlepszych piw jakie pilem z niemieckich landow, a zlaszcza z Bawarii. Piekny wyglad machoniowobrazowo czarny, z mnostwem czerwonych przeswitow. Piana trwala czapowata i troche bezowa. Zapach karmelowoczekoladowy. Smak to poezja, nuty orzecha zmieszane z piernikiem i rodzynkami. Finisz orzechowo-palony, Wytrawny palony i troche czekoladowy. Piwo lekko rozgrzewa ale przy malym procencie jak na podwojnego kozlaka to wielka sztuka.

Bottle drunk at home. Dark brown with a tall tan head. Great flavor with brown sugar, roasted malt, powerful bitterness, nice complexity. It's not too sweet like a lot of dark Bock beer can be. Quite some earthy/foresty hop bitterness going on. Top notch!
