Marrón oscura, ligeramente rojiza. Escasa espuma ocre, pero duradera. Aroma a cacao con algo de fruta roja. Gran cuerpo con buena cremosidad y un justo tono, bastante presente, de carbonatacion. Y sabor excelente con una mezcla ideal de dulce malta y amargor marcado con recuerdos de café y chocolate (postgusto evidente). Excelente.

Pours ruby red, white head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, iron, iodine... Fresh and sizzling, creamy, with a fine bitterness in the long finish. Formidable.

Not that such a thing as a ’standard ale’ exists but this would be it. And not an especially pleasant one. Slightly too sweet, a touch sickly. It’s not unpleasant but it’s not one I’d pick.

Bottle from Epsom Circle Market, Epsom, NH. Aroma is roasted malt with bread dough and cereal. Appearance is clear dark reddish copper with minimal, fleeting head with mild lacing. Taste is well balanced but slightly more bitter than sweet. Palate is medium bodied, thick with lively carbonation--almost stinging to the front of the tongue and detracts from appreciating the taste. Finish is long and slightly bitter.

Bottle (gift) consumed at home. Ruby brown. A bit of head, and not as much carbonation as you’d usually expect in a ’supermarket bitter’. Excellent nose: fruitcake, molasses, a hint of smoke. Blackberry and cotton candy. A sweet taste that is satisfying despite not really living up to the aroma. Balanced yet complex bitter finish. Quite a good recipe really, at a strength befitting the beer.
